Kirkwood was a student of Lochaber High School, Fort William and then went on to graduate with BA in commerce from Edinburgh Napier University. Her family was in the hospitality industry, specifically in the hotel business. To support herself, she worked as a Girls Guide. Currently, Kirkwood is employed in the Met Office. She can be seen on BBC Breakfast and The One Show and is best known for forecasting weather reports on the BBC Breakfast.
