Personal life
Sam Worthington was born to English parents in South East England but his family moved to Perth in Australia when he was just a couple of months old. He was raised in Warnbro which is a suburb of Rockingham. His nationality is Australian. His father Ronald Worthington was an employee in a power plant while his mother Jeanne J. was a housewife who looked after Sam and his sister Lucinda.
Sam went to John Curtin College of Arts, which is a school specifically for dramatic arts. It is located in Fremantle in Western Australia. Due to some issues Sam couldn’t graduate from the college. He chose to drop out and as a result, his father gave him $400 and asked him to go to Queensland in order to make a living for himself. Sam started doing odd jobs and construction work. When he was 19 and was working as a bricklayer, he did an audition for the NIDA and was gladly accepted along with a scholarship. He then graduated at the age of 22 in 1988 and was highly acclaimed for his first theatre role.
Sam began dating an Australian model Lara Bingle back in October 2013. The couple tied the knot on 28th December, 2014 and has two children Rocket and Racer. Sam isn’t very active on social media. He is more focused towards his work.
Career
Sam Worthington, the talented actor made his film debut in the very acclaimed movie ‘Bootmen’ which was released in 2000. It was a film about a troop of dogs. This was followed by plenty of opportunities to play a minor role in several films. He starred in “Hart’s War” in 2002, ‘A Matter of Life’ in 2001 and ‘Dirty Deeds’ in 2002. The following year, Sam got to act alongside David Wenham in an Australian film titled “Gettin’ Square”. This role was quite challenging for Sam as the director wasn’t sure if he could play the tough guy and the leader but surprisingly, things worked in Sam’s favor and he did pretty well in this movie.
Sam got his ‘big break’ in the year 2004 as he was offered to star in the highly acclaimed Australian drama ‘Somersault’, which was Cate Shortland’s movie starring Abbie Cornish as well. This film was highly historic in the Australian Film Institute as it won 13 film categories, which is something to have occurred for the first time ever in history of these awards. Besides, Sam also won the AFI award for being the Best Male Actor in Somersault.
Sam gained attention internationally when he got a role in “James Cameron’s Avator” in year 2009 as Jake Sully and also in ‘Terminator Salvation’ in the same year as Marcus Wright. Sam soon started getting offers to play in classic movies such as ‘The Debt’, ‘Clash of the Titans’, ‘Wrath of the Titans’, ‘ Man on a Ledge’ and ‘Texas Killing Fields’. Worthington was the voice behind the Call of Duty: Black Ops game. Sam Worthington’s net worth is $12 million.
