Personal life
Sam Claflin was born to Mark and Sue Claflin in Ipswich, Suffolk as the couple’s third son. He is of English nationality. While his dad was a finance officer, his mother was a classroom assistant. Sam has two elder brothers namely Daniel and Benjamin and his younger brother Joseph is also an actor. Growing up, Sam was inclined towards playing professional football but an ankle injury shattered his dreams.
He was hopeless when this happened to him but with the support of his parents and his teacher, he pursued acting. He later was a member of the Norwich City School of College in 2003 where he studied Performing Arts. He then opted for higher studies and attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and graduated in the year 2009 from there.
In the year 2011, Sam began dating Laura Haddock, a popular British actress. It’s been six years and the couple has never been apart. He was so confident about his relationship with her that the first met her, he soon called his agent to tell him that he has met the woman he’s going to marry. The couple’s happy wedding took place in July 2013, which was supposedly a private ceremony. They currently live in Chiswick, which is a small place in London. Laura gave birth to her first child, Pip, in December 2015.
Career
Sam Claflin can be termed as a new comer in the Hollywood film industry as he made his acting debut in 2010 when he appeared in two television series at once. They were called ‘Any Human Heart’ and ‘The Pillars of the Earth’. He played the role of young Logan Mountstuart and that of Richard respectively in both the series. A year later in March, he was supposed to play the role of Thomas in ‘Seventh Son’, which was a film adaptation of “The Spook’s Apprentice” but was dropped for some issues and was replaced by another actor Ben Barnes.
Luckily, he grabbed a part in the BBC TV drama ‘United’ the following month itself in which he played the role of Duncan Edwards. This role was quite fascinating for Sam since the drama was about the 1958 Munich air disaster, in which a football team met with a plane accident and Edwards was badly injured. His injury didn’t let him become a professional footballer but he did enact as one.
There is not paucity of the number of films and television series done by Sam Claflin. He has done over thirty such films and TV series in a short span of seven years in which he has been active. The following year he appeared as Jack in the series ‘White Heat’.
