Fairuza Balk

Fairuza Alejandra Feldthouse commonly known as Fairuza Balk was born on May 21, 1974 at Point Reyes, California, United States of America. She was fathered by Solomon Feldthouse, is from Romani and Cherokee ancestry and her mother, Cathryn Balk is of Irish and French descent. 'Fairuza,' her name is Persian word for 'turquoise.' Until the age of two, Balk lived in Cloverdale, California with her mother. Thereon they moved to Vancouver, British Columbia; it is here, when she began acting at the age of six. They moved through London to Paris for another role. They remained in Paris for six months before returning back to Vancouver. Balk moved to Los Angeles as a young woman upon signing to act in, 'The Craft.'

Fairuza debuted as an actor on television in 1983 through, ‘The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.’ In 1985 she acted in Disney’s, ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ In the year 1988, Fairuza moved to Paris to work for, ‘Valmont’ with Milós Forman. In 1989, she decided to take correspondence courses and returned to Hollywood. In 1996, she played the lead role in the movie, ‘The Craft.’ Her work in the movie led her to gain many other roles mostly of the dark ones. In 1996, Fairuza co-starred in the movie, ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau,’ with Marlon Brando, Val Kilmer and David Thewlis. In the year 1998, Fairuza played an intense role in, ‘American History X,’ in which she portrayed the character of a neo-Nazi goth-punk. She also appeared in the movie, ‘The Waterboy.’ The turn of the century in 2000 saw more number of movies thronging to her as she has made appearances for as many as a dozen of films since then.

For her performance in the movie, ‘Gas Food Lodging’ of Allison Anders, Fairuza Balk was awarded an Independent Spirit Award in the year 1992.

Fairuza Black has also lent her voice for animated films and video games including Justice League and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

In the year 2010, Balk released the single, ‘Stormwinds’ under the artist named Armed Love Militia.

From the year 2011, balk started exhibiting art in Los Angeles and New York.
