Mýa Marie Harrison was born on October 10, 1979, in Washington D.C. She was raised in the suburb Maryland of Washington D.C. Her father, Sherman was involved with some musical bands, and gave local area performances. It was for this Mýa developed interest in music very early. At the age of 2, Mýa’s prime interest was dancing and she went for ballet, jazz and tap dance classes. Owing to her beautiful tap dancing skills, Mýa was chosen by Savion Glover for a solo performance at the Kennedy Center.

Mýa had self-esteem issues in her early childhood, because of ancestral background and looks. However, as she progressed in the fields of her choice, she was recognized by the people around her and this built confidence in her. Today, she readily helps young girls trapped in a situation like peer pressure, brand quality etc. and organizes Self-Esteem Programs for adolescents.
Mýa’s father had identified her daughter’s career building interest in music and he helped her pursue it. He went around with sample recordings of her daughter and eventually the CEO of University Music was impressed by her talent. Mýa did the recording work with all efforts, meanwhile she had completed her High School and even joined University of Maryland, College Park.
Mýa ventured into serious singing business with Interscope records. She released her maiden single on February 18, 1998, the song ‘It’s all about me,’ was able to reach 4th ranking on Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Next, she went on to release her debut Album titled ‘Mýa,’ which was released on April 21, 1998. The album was accredited with platinum certification by the ‘Recording Industry association of America’ and it sold over 1.4 million copies alone in America. She went on to give two albums named, ‘Fear of Flying(1999)’ and ‘Case of the Ex,’ both of which were commercial success and elevated Mýa’s career to new heights of stardom and fame. Taking her passion to a new level, she teamed up with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, and P!nk to recreate the magic of ‘ Lady Marmalade’ a 1975 hit track and inducted it in the film Moulin Rouge. It turned out to be a huge success and Mýa’s first chart topper. Owing to their popularity, the team was invited for performing in the 2001 MTV Movie Awards and Lady Marmalade went on to win two of them, one in the category of Best Video from a film and other Video of the Year. The song also went on to bag the 2002 Grammy Awards for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
Mýa continued to bring various albums throughout these years and her latest album ‘Smoove Jones’ is slotted to be released in the year 2016. Mýa has also been a part of various Tours, a few movies and has endorsed some of the top brands. Her net worth in the year 2015 is estimated to be around 4 million USD.
