Background

Jay-Z, real name Shawn Corey Carter, was born on December 4, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York. Jay-Z's mom, Gloria Carter claimed that he was the most well behaved of her four kids. He was the one in particular who didn't give her any agony when she was raising him. She realized he was an extraordinary kid because of how mature he was from the very start. His father, Adnes Reeves, left the family when Jay-Z was just 11 years of age. The youthful rapper was brought by his mom up in Brooklyn's drug plagued Marcy Projects.

Career

Carter went to rap at a youthful age as a break from the culture of drugs, viciousness, and poverty that encompassed him in the Marcy Projects. In 1989, he joined the rapper Jaz-O, a more established performer who filled in as a sort of tutor to record a melody called "The Originators," which won the pair an appearance on an episode segment of Yo! MTV Raps. It was then that Shawn Carter grasped the epithet Jay-Z, which was a tribute to Jaz-O, a play on Carter's youth moniker of "Snazzy" and a reference to the J/Z tram station close to his Brooklyn home.

Even with a new stage name, Jay-Z remained generally unknown until he and two companions, Damon Dash and Kareem Burke, established their very own record label, Roc-a-Fella Records in 1996. In June of that year, Jay-Z released his introduction album collection, Reasonable Doubt.
