Background
Chris was interested in the field of journalism ever since his childhood. He was confident and sure of himself when choose journalism as his career path. There was no hesitation when he completed his graduation at Mount Royal College in Calgary in 1989. It was no surprise to his friends and family that he majored in Broadcast Journalism. He also got into the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence during his college tenure.
Communication was not Chris’ only skill. He had actually went to his college on a basketball scholarship. Even though he did not make it to the professional level, earning a scholarship to play sports in college was already enough validation for Chris. He wasn’t upset that he wasn’t going to play basketball for the rest of his life. He had found that he was actually good at his childhood passion of journalism and was happy to move on in that direction.
The Path to His Journalism Career
Christ started his career as a reporter in Alberta and continued there for three years before making a switch. He shifted to CFCN-TV and then switched to CICT-TV. His job involved reporting agricultural and municipal issues.
Before he moved to Global Calgary (formerly known as Calgary 7), he returned to Calgary 6 to work as a leading news anchor for the weekend newscast of CFCN. In 2000 he decided to move to the United States to expand his horizons. He moved to Dallas, Texas, to work as an anchor at ABC. There he covered, the top hot stories at the time like the accident of the space shuttle Columbia, the September 11th attacks, the Iraq War and the deployment of U.S. troops in Iraq from Fort Hood.
After leaving Dallas, he was anchoring at WNYW for the Good Day New York program. . It was an affiliate of Fox News in New York and he enjoyed being on the most watched morning show for the people of the northeast region.
He eventually moved back to Canada to work for Global BC as an anchor for Global News Hour at 6. He co-anchors the program with Sophie Lui.
Awards and Recognition
Chris has become a successful anchor that has built up more than 20 years of experience and expertise in his field. Apart from his main duties of anchoring, he became a part of the Weekday Hour Team. He reported all the hot news from around the world. While he worked as an anchor for the Best Small Market Newscast, he won a CanPro Award. Although Chris didn’t win, he was nominated for the prestigious Katy Award. This award is the highest honor possible in the field of Journalism given to working reporters in Texas.
He further proved his skills by winning the Canadian Screen Awards for “Best Newscast”. In 2015, Chris was named as the best local news anchor by the Canadian Screen Awards, formerly known as the Gemini Awards. He won these awards after coming back to the family of Global News in 2006.

Champion of Social Causes
Chris is not only active in his professional life but also in his charity and social work. He actively supports several social causes through different organizations such as Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, B.C. Children’s Hospital and organizations that are focused on the treatment and research of diabetes and arthritis. He also motivates people to support literacy. He actively promotes the construction of schools and libraries in developing countries through the organization Room to Read. However, his support is not exclusive to humans only. He along with his wife tries to encourage people to consider animal adoption and they themselves have adopted a mixed breed cat and a Maltese dog.
Married Life
Chris is married to Jane Carrigan and they have a sweet little boy named William. They met at Global Calgary when they used to anchor on the same channel. Their love story started from their office but they never had a thought that it would continue up to sharing the same apartment.
Now, they make a lovely couple that can never let each other go. Chris fell in love with Jane and it was love at first sight. After spending a lot of great moments with each other Chris asked Jane to spend her life with him. It was Jane’s most wonderful day and her answer was an enthusiastic yes. They are happily married and have been with each other for more than eleven years. William is very lucky to have such enchanting people as his parents.
Even though office romances can be tricky, Chris said he was very lucky to have a partner from his workplace. In some jobs, people have to work weird hours and shifts. It was convenient that he had a partner from the same field of work so she could empathize with his crazy schedule. Chris was at a higher position at Global Calgary than Jane as an anchor. However, the arrangement was fine with Jane and she was proud that her husband is doing better than her. She has always helped her husband in becoming successful and stood by him in any situation.
Chris and Jane are both are fond of adventures. They moved to New York for the sake of their jobs. It is hard to maintain a relationship when a couple works in the media. However both of their dream jobs were to work in the media industry.
Personal Life
Not everyone knows that Chris is also a fan of various sports, like basketball, rugby, mountain biking, football and snowboarding. He was a star basketball player in college and still loves to follow sports even though he didn’t get the chance to become a pro player.
Chris is also an avid traveler and loves to travel with his family. When people ask him his favorite destination, he is quick to name Mexico, London, and New York. One of his favorite hobbies is to work on his old truck with his son in his home garage.
