Lorne Michaels

Lorne Michaels is a producer of the television shows and he is the one behind creating and shaping Saturday Late Night show. In the year 1975, the NBC had to hire Lorne in order to create the show that would run in the Saturdays’ night.  He brought together a group of writers and actors and they started Saturday Night Live.  This is a sketch comedy show that has helped in launching many careers. The show got 160 Emmy award nominations and it has already won 35. Lorne is recognized like the person who is influential and as comedy producer for all the time.


Lorne Michaels place of birth was in the year 1944 in Israel but the family had to immigrate in Toronto in Canada when he was still a child.  He started to write about fiction when he was still a teenager. When he graduated in the University of Toronto, he decided to follow an entertainment career.

Lorne became a partner of another Canadian Hart Pomerantz and they started a comedy duo to produce a show that aired at Canadian Broadcasting Co. The comedy was called Hart and Lorne Terrific Hour.  Lorne moved in California, in 1968 because he wanted to write Laugh-in and The beautiful Phyllis Diller Show which are the Canadian television shows.

NBC hired Lorne Michaels in 1975 at the age of 30 together with Dick Ebersol so that they can create the show that would replace The Tonight Show which was running during Saturday nights.  The two developed an idea of the sketch comedy show which was being filmed before a live audience and they brought together a group of actors and writers who were called Not Ready for Primetime Players. In the talent they had, they included John Belusi, Gilda Radner and Chevy Chase.  For the first season, the show got four Emmy awards with a royal audience. Lorne Michaels is credited because of the reputation of the show to reinvent itself and bringing in new talents. Other players are Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy among others.  In 1980, Lorne left the show, but after five years, he was called back to help gain back the prestige of the show that was failing.

Lorne Michaels become a citizen of US in the year 1987 and his is a father to 3 children.  He got married three times and the first marriage was to a SNL writer called Rosie Shuster. The second marriage was to Susan Forristal and the third and current wife is Alice Barry, who was his assistant and they got married in the year 1991.  He has supported many campaigns of senators like John McCain, Sonny Landham, Chris Dodd and Barrack Obama. He is a close friend of Paul McCartney. He has a net worth of 350 million dollars.
