Joshua Aaron Charles is an American actor who is famous for his role as Dan Rydell in Sports Nights and as Will Gardner in The Good Wife. He has earned two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his work.


Personal life

Josh was born in 1971 in Balitore. He is of German, Scottish and English ancestry from his mother’s side. His mother is Laura Heckscher, a gossip columnist of Baltimore Sun newspaper. His father, Allan Charles was an advertising executive. He spent his teenage summers at Stagedoor Manor in New York and he also attended the Baltimore school for arts.

In 2013, he married author and ballet dancer, Sophie Flack. In 2014, he had his first child with Sophie. Josh was born and brought up as Jewish. He loves to play his guitar and is a crazy Baltimore sports fan. He never wanted to have a career in Television, when he was a kid. He was very close to his parents. During a lot of his interviews, he used to talk about his time with his dad.

He seldom talks about his personal life. His past girlfriends before Sophie are not known to the media. He never mentioned that he was dating Sophie. Their engagement did not reach the media either. When he got married, people assumed that he was dating Sophie for a long time. After marriage, his life was the same in terms of media’s involvement. His marital life, parenting life and other details of his marriage are kept away from media. Since Sophie was also inert to the media, there is no chance of learning about Josh’s personal life.

He talks very vaguely about his childhood too. It is not known whether he has any siblings. He was not married or engaged before he met Sophie. He has not fathered a child out of his wedlock. His marriage is going smooth without any rumors about separation, affair or other problems.

Career

His first film debut was Hairspray as Iggy in 1988. He then started in Dead Poets Society, Crossing the Bridge and many others. He did a few uncredited roles too. On TV, Murder in Mississippi of 1990 was his first movie. He played the role of Dan Rydell in Sports Night from 1998 to 2000. He starred for a few episode in Stella, Six Degree, In Treatment, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and other. He got a regular role in Good Wife as Will Gardner from 2009 to 2016. He is currently starring in Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later as Blake. His recent movie is Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of New York Fixer.

For his performance, he was nominated for several awards and recognitions like Screen Actors Guild Awards 2000, 2010 and 2011, Viewers for Quality Television 2000, Satellite Award 2010, Primetime Emmy Award 2011 and 2014, Critics’ Choice Television Awards 2015 and 2014 and many others. He won 2014 People’s Choice Awards. He also performs in theatres. His performance in Adam Bock’s The Receptionist in 2007 was well known. Apart from this, he has appeared in A Number, Well-Appointed Room and others.
