Lagina Brothers

The Lagina brothers, Rick and Marty Lagina, are well-known American reality television personalities who have become famous after appearing on the reality TV show, “The Curse of Oak Island”. They are treasure hunters and are trying to find out the mysteries surrounding the Oak Island.

Personal Life

According to their biography, both Rick and Marty were born in the city of Kingsford, situated in the state of Michigan, which makes them, American nationals. When they were growing up, they always had an inclination towards adventure as they read the Hardy Boys books and inspired to be like the brothers in the stories, Frank and Joe. When Rick was 11 years old, he saw an article in the 1965 Reader’s Digest magazine’s January edition, regarding Oak Island’s treasure named ‘Money Pit’ and he had been obsessed with it ever since until he and his brother bought their first share of the island in the 1990s.

Rick Lagina keeps his personal life very private and there has been no news about his affairs and his marriage. His educational background has totally been a blur over these years of his fame. Marty Lagina completed his graduation in 1977 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech. He even received a Juris Doctorate in 1982, after completing law school from the University of Michigan.

He is also an owner of a vineyard, named ‘Villa Mari’ after his grandmother, in the Traverse City of Michigan, as he is very fond of wine. Rick has been married for more than 20 years and has a healthy relationship with his wife, Olivia Lagina. He is the father of two kids, Alex and Maddie Lagina. Both the brothers are extremely close and it’s visible through their social media responses to each other as they are pretty active about their relationship.

Career

Before the brothers started their treasure hunting career, Marty Lagina was the owner of an oil company, named Terra Energy. His main focus, after he completed his law school, was this company and it was specialized to dig natural gas from the lands of Michigan. This is where Marty learned to dig. In 1995, he sold the company to CMS and he bought a share (Lot 25) of the Oak Island, along with his brother Rick, after seeing an advertisement regarding the sale of that part of the island. They traveled to Nova Scotia and visited the island and started digging to find the treasure.

The brothers were then approached by Kevin Burns from Prometheus Entertainment, who wanted to make a reality TV show on their treasure hunt and it took a lot of convincing for the brothers to agree as they didn’t want to commercialize it by working as actors. The first season of the show, “The Curse of Oak Island”, aired in 2014. They have made five seasons of it till now and the show revolves around the brothers’ efforts to prove or disprove theories revolving around the island and its treasure. The net worth of both the brothers clubbed together is estimated to be between 2.5 to 3 million US dollars.
