Rufus Sewell was born in London on 29 October 1967. Both his parents were artists as his mother did drawing and his father was an animator from Australia. His father worked with The Beatles for their song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. He worked on the animated section of the song. That song is today considered among the best songs ever made. Sewell’s parents divorced when he was just 5 years old and this had a very severe impact on his mind. His father later dies when Sewell reached an age of 10 years. His mother had to work very hard to take care of the two sons and pay for their school and other stuff. All these incidents made Sewell’s teenage very difficult as he later said in his videos. For his high schooling, he went to Orleans Park School in Twickenham. He completed his graduation from 1984 after which he joined West Thames College for getting a bachelor's degree in drama. He later joined Central School of Speech and Drama which is situated in London to get a degree in Drama.


After graduation, Sewell got an agent called Judi Dench who had previously directed a play in which he played. That play was held at the central School of Speech and Drama. He came to be well known in the year 1993 when he got the chance to play nasty Tim for the movie Dirty Weekend. This movie was directed by Michale Winner who was impressed by Sewell’s performance in a play at the Criterion Theatre. Some of his other movies are The Illusionist, Drak City, The Holiday, Amazing Grace etc. In Amazing Grace, Sewell played the character of Thomas Clarkson. Apart from appearing as the hero, he has also been on screen villain in many movies such as The Legend of Zorro, Bless the child and A Knight’s Tale. He revealed his unhappiness for playing small roles in an interview. He has also done some very impressive dramas such as The Taming of the Shrew in which he played the role of Petruchio. For this, he was nominated for the best actor for the BAFTA Television Awards. In 2006 he did a play called Rock n Roll which ran from June 2016 to July 2016. This play was very well received by the viewers as well as the critics making it a commercial success.

Sewell first married an Australian fashion designer Yasmin Abdallah in 1999. This marriage lasted just a few weeks as there were very bad revelations after the marriage which were the sole reason for the marriage to break. In 2004 he married again, this time with Amy gardener who is a producer and scriptwriter. He has two children from his second wife. This marriage went had the same fate as the first one as even this didn’t last long and in 2006 he divorced his second wife as well. His biography can be read on Wikipedia.
