Born in the year 1981 on 24th May, to father Michael Taylor and mother Denna Noble in Melbourne situated in Victoria in Australia, Penelope Jane Taylor spent most of her childhood days growing up with her two siblings in Victoria. Her interest in basketball was ignited because of her parents who were interested in basketball. Her parents made her join a basketball club named Belgrave South Red Devils which helped her develop her personality as well as skills in basketball. She did her initial schooling from the Upwey High School which is situated in Upwey in Victoria. She then went on to complete her education at the Australian Institute of Sport on a scholarship.


She started her career in the year 997 when she became a member of her college Australian Institue of Sport’s basketball team and went on to lead her team to victory in the Women’s National Basketball League. She also went on to win the Most Valuable Player award in the year 2001 in the WNBL. After taking a break from the league, she returned for the 2014-2015 season and this time played with the team Rangers. This time around, she couldn’t lead her team to victory due to an injury and Rangers lost the semifinal match.

In the year 2001, she became a part of the Cleveland Rockers which went on to participate in the Women's National Basketball Association. After being a part of the Rockers for three consecutive seasons, she was then transferred to Phoenix Mercury. Her team Phoenix Mercury went on to win the Women's National Basketball Association in the year 2007 and Taylor played an important role in the victory.

In the year 2009, Taylor suffered from an injury which kept her away from the game for most of the season, but she returned to the game for the WNBA championship. She played an important role in leading her team to a victory in the championships. She had to undergo several operations and surgeries in the year 2012 owing to a knee injury which kept her away from the game.

She eventually returned in the year 2013 but was again barred from playing due to another injury. She finally returned in the 2014 season and led her team to victory in sixteen consecutive matches. They also went on to emerge as the winner of the WNBA championship. She played her last game in the year 2016 during the semifinals against the Minnesota Lynx. She is also a part of the National Basketball Team of Australia and she led the team to win the FIBA World Championship for Women in the year 2006 where she was awarded the MVP award.

Talking about her personal life, she was married to her long-time boyfriend Rodrigo Rodriguez-Gil, but the marriage ended in divorce. Currently, she is rumored to be dating her Mercury teammate Diana Taurasi, but the news regarding their relationship is not confirmed.
