Diana Taurasi

Diana Lorena Taurasi was born on 11th June 1982 and is a professional basketball player. She is of American nationality. She plays basketball for UMMC Ekaterinburg in Russia. She has also played 11 seasons with Phoenix Mercury in WNBA. In the year 2011, Diana was voted as being one of the all-time players making it to the top 15 by the fans.


Her early life

Taurasi was raised in Chino California. Mario, her father, as born in Italy but brought up in Argentina. He used to be a soccer player in Italy professionally and for some years, he was the goalie. Taurasi’s mum is an Argentinian named Liliana. Her parents later immigrated to the USA just before her birth. She also has a sister who is older that she called Jessica.

High school

Taurasi went to the don Antonio Lugo High school where she received the Cheryl miller award in the year 2000 which was awarded by Los Angeles times for the southern California best player. In the year 2000, she was named the parade magazine and Naismith national high school of the year. In 1999 and 2000 she was also named Ms. Basketball state player of the year. She finished the prep career and was ranked the fifth with some 2,156 points. She was also named WBCA all American. In the year 2000, she took part in WBCA high school all-America Game. She scored 12 points and got MVP honors.

College

After her high school career which as greatly decorated, she enrolled in the Connecticut University where she started in the basketball team for the 2000-2001 seasons. At the court, she was the shooting guard and point guard and she was able to lead her team to in 3 NCCA championship much was the confidence her coach exuded in her that he even predicted the likelihood to win by telling his opponents that they had Diana.

Diana received a lot of accolades during her university years and these included the 2003-04 college players of the year awards, the wade trophy and the associated press player of the year award. She got national recognition during her university years and many fans in Connecticut gave her a legendary status.

WNBA career

After her career in college, she was selected in the 2004 WNBA draft as first overall by phoenix mercury. At some instances in her career, she needed to play the forward as there were some shorter players in her team.

In the debut, she was able to net some 26 points and led the team to victory over the Seattle storm. She also scooped the rookie of the year award.

She averaged some 16.0 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game in the year 2005. She was also able to be an all start for two straight years. She was also a member of the Olympic basketball teams in the years 2004, 2008 and 2012 where the basketball team won gold.

Taurasi has had great success in her profession basketball career and has received a lot of recognition and support by many.
