Early Life and Beginning of Career

Laurie Holden was born as Heather Laurie Holden on December 17, 1969. Her parents are both actors – Glen Corbett (who also goes by the name of Lawrence Holden) and Adrienne Ellis. Her birthplace is Los Angeles but she was brought up in Toronto in Canada. She is a dual citizen of both Canada and the United States. Her brother Christopher Holden is also an actor and assistant director on movies such as Silent Hill.

She studied at many places. She did her graduation at Bishop Strachan School and then went on to study political science and economics at the McGill University. She is also an alumna of the University of California, where she won the Natalie Wood Acting Award. She has also learnt about human rights at the Columbia University.

Holden started out as a child actress. Her mother’s second husband was Michael Anderson, an Academy Award nominated director. She played the role of the protagonist’s daughter in The Martian Chronicles.

When she grew up to be a teenager, she worked as a model and participated in a few beauty pageants. She won the Look of the Year contest. As a teen, her first role was Separate Vacations, which was again directed by Anderson.

Success as an Actress

Holden acted in highly acclaimed movies such as Physical Evidence and Young Catherine very early in her career. These were character-based roles that allowed her to showcase the best of her acting talents. She also worked on the stage in plays as The Winter’s Tale and Time and the Conways.

On TV shows, her earliest appearances were on Due South and Murder, She Wrote. Then she appeared in The X-Files and further on in The Magnificent Seven TV series and Highlander: The Series.

Personal Life

Laurie Holden is not known to be married. Recently there was a rumor on Twitter about her dating Norman Reedus, but there is no confirmation of the same. She is 5’7” in height.

She is quite actively involved in human rights activism. She is on the board of founders of Somaly Man Foundation. She is also involved with Home From Home that works for HIV-affected children. In 2014, she volunteered with Operation Underground Railroad that crusades against child sex traffickers.
