Debra Jo Rupp is a very popular American actress who has appeared on numerous movies and TV shows. She is best known for her appearances in long-running TV shows such as That 70’s Show and Friends. She also had noteworthy roles in some cult classics such as Death Becomes Her, Teacher’s Pet, and Big.


Early Life and Beginning of Career

Debra Jo Rupp was born in Glendale in California. Her birthdate is February 24, 1951. She grew up with two siblings, both sisters. Her parents did not want her to be an actress and she had to fight some amount of parental opposition for her choice of career.

Though she was born in Glendale, she spent most of her growing up years in Boxford in Massachusetts. She did her schooling here too, at the Masconomet Regional High School. She graduated from this school in 1969. Apart from her basic graduation, she also obtained a Bachelor of Arts course at the University of Rochester. She has learned acting formally at the Drama House, where she also performed early on in her career.

In the 70s, she began auditioning for roles. She had a brief stint in a game show named The $10,000 Pyramid. She did not make it till the end of the game though.

As an Actress

The first appearance of Debra Jo Rupp in a TV show was on an episode of Spenser for Hire, which happened in 1987. The next year, she made her film debut in the Tom Hanks movie Big. Two years later, she made her Broadway debut in the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

She also appeared in two TV shows that are regularly ranked as the best shows of all time. She appeared on Friends and Seinfeld as recurrent characters. She was present on a few episodes of the show Empty Nest too, but that show did not last long.

One of her most stellar appearances was as Kitty Forman in the show That 70’s Show. She was one of the regular characters and she left quite an impression. The fans of the show praised her character and the characterization both, often asserting that she fit the role to the T. She was named as the Best Sitcom Mom on TV for this role by The Boston Herald.

Personal Life

Debra Jo Rupp is not married. She has no husband, though there is a lot of speculation among her fans as to who she might be in a relationship with. She has never had any children.

Debra Jo Rupp owns two properties, one each in Los Angeles and in Lee in Massachusetts. She spends her time in these two properties, but is mostly located in Los Angeles for her acting assignments.
