David Cross

Apart from being a successful comedian he also is a reasonably successful director and writer. He has doubled for many well known comedians and has been able to make a place for himself in a highly demanding and competitive field. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia and was the son Susi and Barry. Barry in fact migrated from Leeds, England.


The early days of his life saw him and his family moving between Connecticut and New York. Eventually his family settled in Roswell, Georgia. He had a struggling childhood and his father left him when he was just 10 years old. He spent a lot of his childhood staying in friend’s homes and motels. He also has two sisters and in fact he helped one sister to get out jail when she was young.

It would be pertinent to mention here that he started performing as stand up artistes at the early age of seventeen. He did some small roles but was basically floating around. He tried joining college and spent one semester in Emerson College in Boston before dropping out. He tried his luck quite few times but failed miserably. He was often called loud and boorish and was turned away quite a few times.

His first real break came when he started performing in a club known by the name Catch A Rising Star. This is the place where many comedians of the 1970 and 1980s got their first break. He is married to Amber Tamblyn and the marriage took place in August 2011. He dated her for four years and they have a daughter by the name Marlow Alice Cross.

In 2000, he also made a Tour Documentary Let America Laugh and it was a stunning hit and was well received by his fans, admirers and critics also had a few good words to say about it. As far as his film acting career is concerned, he has an impressive record of more than 50 films and there are some great ones like Kung Fu Panda, The Post, Obvious Child and others which have been well received. In fine there is no denying the fact that he has had checkered career and though his young days were a struggle has more than made up for it.
