William G Bumpus

William G. Bumpus is a Connecticut Assistant Attorney General but is publicly known for being the ex husband of Gayle King. Gayle King is a journalist and American television personality. She gets the television airtime by being the co-anchor of the CBS News morning show CBS This Morning,


Upbringing

William’s father in law was an electrical engineer and a homemaker. Billy was raised in his hometown of Greenwich by his family. He studied at the local high school and graduated with honors. After school, he decided to become a lawyer and to serve in the name of justice. Bumpus attended Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut. Then he studied at The Yale Law School and graduated with a degree in law. After graduating William, Williams built a wealth of experience for years before he became one of the major lawyers in Connecticut.

Law Career

In the early 80's, he worked as an assistant attorney and later continued his practice by progressing to the role of a lawyer. As attorney-general assistant. He was part of the administration that was responsible for the selection of people who qualified for the nomination of judicial posts and authorizing prosecutions. In the late 80’s, his then wife Gayle King encountered some fame and popularity from her appearances on television. Gayle’s popularity also had a positive on influence on William’s career because her exposure brought attention to the couple.

He also represented DCF in Court Cases involving Neglect and Abuse of Children. He was asked to be a representative because he specialized in the Termination of Parental Rights. He was also formerly employed as a CT Assistant State’s Attorney Criminal Prosecutor.

Controversy

Judging by the opinion of many citizens, William Bumpus was not a professional judicial figure when he was involved in court cases with large-scale legal affairs. He was also involved in a Connecticut law office where they made a number of serious mistakes. His unusual policy of conducting cases in court has prompted many lawyers to leave their posts because of personal principles and morals.

Family Life

He was married to famous TV anchor and journalist, Gayle King in 1982. Gayle is a co-anchor of CBS “This Morning”. The couple met each other in 1981, when Gayle moved from Kansas City to Connecticut. They have two children, a son and a daughter. William Bumpus Jr. is their oldest child, he is in the show business like his mother. There are many pictures of both at different events online. William’s daughter, Kirby Bumpus was born in 1991. She studied in Greenwich Academy and then Stanford University. After she graduated, Kirby started her career by working at Robin Hood Foundation.

Divorce

William and Gayle got divorced in the 1993 after eleven years of marriage. Gayle King later discovered that her husband was cheating on her with another woman. Gayle said for interview “’Despise’ is a strong word. I'm not a huge fan of the woman I caught naked with my now ex-husband on June 24, 1990, at 9:16 p.m. but I don't remember the details. There’s nothing better than women who support and encourage other women." It's understandable that someone who allegedly slept with her husband might be an exception to this sentiment — as long as we remember he deserves at least half the blame himself”

William released a statement after Gayle’s interview, “I have been haunted with this life altering choice. Though I have dealt with this privately, I publicly apologize for the major transgression that dramatically changed all of our lives. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Gayle and how she handled herself with grace. Despite the situation, she kept our children, as well as my relationship and involvement with them, as a clear priority. Gayle was a great wife, an excellent mother and a fantastic co-parent. I am eternally grateful for all that she has done and continues to do to enrich my life and the lives of our incredible adult children. I continue to be a work in progress and have spent the last 26 years striving to be a better man and father. I applaud Gayle’s continued phenomenal success and friendship!”

Gayle’s friend, Oprah Winfrey said that she didn’t believe in the in the marriage and the first and place and told Gayle, “I didn’t think your marriage was going to "work out" when I attended the wedding in 1982. It didn't feel joyful. You know how you go to weddings and they're full of joy? There are some weddings you go to and you're just filled with all this hope for the couple. And you feel that there's something special going on. I didn't feel that at yours. It just felt kind of pitiful. I felt like, well, maybe it's just me being jealous. Maybe I couldn't feel the joy because I was feeling like our friendship was going to change. But it didn't."

In a 2006 radio interview, Gayle said “I was married to a cheater . . . I went to marital counseling. I have been divorced since 1993, so I’m all healed and everything. I have worked it out. I’m not bitter. I’m OK. I’m really OK.” and friendship!”

Forgiven Man

As the years have gone by, William has been forgiven for humiliating and betraying his ex wife, Gayle King. In an interview with The Vanity Fair, Gayle talked about how their relationship is now progressing and who she admires the most, “It's so important for people who have children together to get along. Regardless of how you feel about the other as a spouse, you still have these children to raise together. Oprah Winfrey. She always does the right thing - even when no one is looking. 'In the beginning, it used to bother me. Like, "Oh, my God, I don't want people to think I'm gay - I'm trying to get a date! But now I don't care. I've given up trying to figure that out. At this stage, if you still think that, it's on you.”

William is grateful that Gayle is doing what’s best for the kids and what’s best for them is their parents having a friendly relationship.
