Major Garrett was born on 24 august 1962 in California. His full name is Major Elliot Garret who was born into a middle-class family. His ethnicity is white as his parents are white and of American nationality. His parents have been supportive of him ever since he was born and have He was inclined toward journalism since his childhood days as he watched news shows in his spare time. For his education, he went to a nearby highschool. He later got himself enrolled into the University of Missouri. He completed his graduation with a degree in Political science and Journalism in 1984.

He soon started to look for jobs and found one at US News and World Report where he was made the congressional correspondent look out for the news related to the congress party. He then went to work at the Washington Times which is a very reputed newspaper in the USA. In 2000 he left Washington Times and joined CNN as a member of the team that covered the news related to the white house. He worked there for a couple of years and then left it to work at FOX News.
