Personal Life
Her full name is Kathleen Ann Matthews, born on August 9th, 1953, in San Francisco, California, United States. She graduated from Stanford University in 1975. She was a part of the Institute of Politics at the John F Kennedy School of Government at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University in 2004. Matthews has a degree of honors from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia and from the University Of South Carolina.
In 1980, she tied the knot with husband Chris Matthews who is a host of Hardball and Having his own show called The Chris Matthews Show. They have three children named: Michael Matthews, Thomas Matthews, and Caroline Matthews and they live in Chevy Chase in Maryland. Their son Michael is an American Actor born in 1983.
She is very active in her industry and community as she served boards of the US Travel Association, Suited for Change, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Catholic Charities, Nantucket Film Festival, the Black Student Fund and Nantucket Dreamland Theatre. Matthews is also active in the Council of the World Economic Forum Policy. She even wrote a book called ‘Landscape’, released in 2013.
Career
Kathleen’s first work included in 1976, where she worked as a production assistant in ABC’s Washington DC affiliate WJLA! She was promoted d to a producer and was a reporter from 1982- 1991. She was also involved as a reporter from 1991 till 2006 as she retired. Kathleen hosted several events such as Working Woman Television in 2001-06, Capital Sunday.
Washingtonian Magazine named her Washingtonian of the year in 2002 and was mentioned as the Woman Who Means Business by Washington Business Journal. During her Journalism, she was awarded nine Emmys and also an Edward R.Murrow Award during her career as a journalist.
Then, she was made the Executive Vice President in Marriott International in July 2006 and became the main link for external and internal communications, corporate social responsibility and including government affairs, but she resigned from Marriott International in March 2015.
In the year 2015, on 3rd of June, she declared that she was a Candidate for the Democratic Party called Maryland Party and for the candidate in 8th Districts. In April 2016, Kathleen was defeated in the Democratic Primary by Raskin. In March 2017, she was chosen to be the interim Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party as Brice Poole resigned.
On May 6th, 2017, she was elected as a State Party Chair to a four-year term. She promised to renew the infrastructure of the Party that has gone downhill in the past years especially in Baltimore City and Prince George’s and other Montgomery Countries. Matthews claimed to pursue all possible strategies to support and recruit candidates. She is estimated to have a net worth of $16 million and her salary annually is estimated to be around $5 million.
