Emayatzy Corinealdi is an actress who won the Gotham Award in 2012 for her role in Sundance feature Middle of Nowhere. She was also nominated for the same role at the NAACP Image Awards at the Independent Spirit Awards.


Personal Life

Born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, Emayatzy Corinealdi is the daughter of Edward Corinealdi and Rosemarie Hilton. Her mother belongs to the African-American race from the city of Ohio while her father is a Panamanian. Her parents raised her between U.S. and Germany as she was a part of a military family. Growing up, she studied at three different places. The first one was in New Jersey at the Actor’s Training Studio, the second one being the William Esper Studio and finally, the Playhouse West.

Emayatzy is quite succinct, when it comes to disclosing her husband’s name. She may have mentioned his presence in her life but she is quite numb about his details. Career

At her initial stage, Emayatzy co-starred in plenty of independent and short films. She had made an appearance in the Hallmark television film named The Nanny Express (in 2008), had a role on the CBS daytime soap opera named ‘The Young and the Restless’ and she also made her debut as the lead actress in the drama ‘Middle of Nowhere’, she took her acting career to a whole new level.

Emayatzy has showcased her talent as an actor in several films namely Beauty Shop, The Nanny Express, Wednesday again and Miles ahead. She has also given outstanding performances in various television series such as Romantically Challenged, Katrina, Roots and Hand of God.

Emayatzy has a number of accolades to her name. She won the 14th Annual American Black Film Festival Star Project which is an international acting competition designed for emerging multicultural actors. In the same year, she also won a Gotham Award and got nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead.

In the year 2013, Emayatzy appeared in a short filmed named ‘The Door’ which was a party of Miu Miu’s fasion series Women’s Tales. In 2014, she also appeared in the Amazon drama series called ‘Hand of God’. That year itself, she got the role of Frances Taylor in the biographical film named ‘Miles Ahead’.
