Born on January 18, 1970, to Delma Armstrong in Compton situated in California, the United States of America, DJ Quik birth name was David Marvin Blake. He spent most of his childhood days growing up with his sister Stacy Hagood in Compton. There is not much information about his childhood days or about the school he went to. For his graduation in the 8th grade, he was gifted a turntable, and he used in to make homemade mix-tapes and started selling it. His most popular mixtape was The Red Tape in the year 1987. He then went on to pursue his DJing around Southern California but ended up being a part of Bloods street gang and Tree Top Piru Bloods. Fortunately, he left being a gang member in favour of his music career. When he was in 11th grade, he had to leave his high school and he along with his family went homeless for around three years.
He began attracting a lot of attention from many big names because of his homemade mix tapes. The turning point in his career was when he signed a contract with Profile Records in the year 1990. He, later on, left Profile Records in favour of Ruthless Records where he received a huge amount from his owner. His first album released in the year 1991 titled Quik Is the Name and his singles like Tonight and Born and Raised in Compton were big hits. The album was a big success and became number 10 on the album charts. In the same year, he produced albums like 2nd II None and Hi-C.
In the year 1992, he went on to release his second album named Way 2 Fonky. Even though it did not enjoy the same success as its predecessor, but was well-received. In the same year, he produced Paid the Cost, which was debut album pf Penthouse Players Clique. He went on to release his third album Safe + Sound in the year 1995, and it was also well received. In that year, he produced songs like Murder Was the Case, It’s About Time, Until the End of Time, etc. He released many albums in the subsequent years which includes Rhythm-al-ism and beyond in the year 1998, Balance & Options in the year 2000, Under the Influence in the year 2002, Trauma in the year 2005, The Book of David in the year 2011 and The Midnight Life in the year 2014.
He has also appeared in some movies which include Visualism: The Art of Sound into Vision in the year 2003, Keeping Up with the Steins in the year 2006 and Malice n Wonderland in the year 2010.
