Tamera Mowry is an American model and actress. She has appeared in several movies and TV shows. She gained prominence when she acted in the comedy show Sister, Sister with her identical sibling, Tia Mowry. The show ran on ABC/WB for five years and made her quite popular. She has also acted in a Disney Channel movie named Twitches and its sequel, and then played an important part in the show Strong Medicine. Recently, a reality show about the lives of her and her twin sister aired on Style Network. She also voices The Real.


Early Life and Beginning of Career

Tamera Mowry was born as Tamera Darvette Mowry to Darlene and Timothy Mowry on July 6, 1978. Her birthplace is Gelnhausen in Hesse, Germany. She has an identical twin, Tia, who was born two minutes before her. Her father was a jailer with the City of Glendale Police Department and her mother worked as a security guard. She was raised a devout Christian.

The girls started auditioning for roles after moving to California. They hit jackpot when their audition for the show Sisters, Sisters proved successful. The show was a big success in the 90s and remains a cult classic to this day. It was even hugely popular with the children of the day. After the show ended in 1999, she went on to act in a few movies such as Seventeen Again, The Hot Chick, and Double Wedding.

Acting Career

Apart from Sisters, Sisters, Tamera has acted in shows such as Detention, Strong Medicine, Roommates, Things We Do for Love, and Melissa & Joey. She usually plays bubbly comedic roles of beautiful women and appears in shows where the focus is on romance and relationships.

She has won multiple awards for her various acting roles. In 1996, she won a NAACP Image Awards nomination for Sister, Sister, a nomination that was shared with her sister. She won the award multiple times for Best Actress on this show with her sister and singly at the NAACP Image Awards and the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. She has also been nominated multiple times at the People’s Choice Awards, the Teen Choice Awards, and the Young Artist Awards. She has also been nominated at the NAACP Image Awards for outstanding reality series in 2013 for her stint in Tia & Tamera. Her TV movie Seventeen Again has also passed muster at the Young Artist Awards by fetching her a Best Performance nomination.

Personal Life

Tamera Mowry married her boyfriend Adam Housley with whom she had been in a relationship since six years. The wedding took place on May 15, 2011 and she assumed the name of her husband, which is Tamera Mowry-Housley. However, in her official movies and TV shows credits, she appears without the name of her husband as Tamera Mowry. They have a house together in Napa Valley. The couple have a child.

Tamera Mowry remains immensely popular to this day, as her show Sister, Sister is still fondly remembered. Her other TV shows have shown her potential as well, but haven’t been able to reach the popularity that her premier show did. Her net worth at present is $4 million.
