Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks is an American singer and songwriter also known as The Queen of Rock and Roll.


Personal Life

Stevie Nicks was born on May 26th, 1948, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Her name Stevie came from her childhood days when she used to pronounce ‘Stephanie’ as ‘tee dee’. Her mother was a housewife and her father was a corporate executive at Arizona State University.

Her parents got married in 1947. Nicks started performing in public, since she was four years old and sometimes, performed at the tavern which was owned by her parents. As her father got a promotion, they moved from town to towns like New Mexico, Texas, and California. In 1963, she went to Arcadia High School in LA.

In those times, Stevie met her best friend Robin and together they joined a band called ‘Changing Times’. She didn’t spend much time in the band as her family moved to Palo Alto, California where she attended Menlo Atherton High. In her new school, Stevie met another friend named Lindsey Buckingham, who is a guitarist and a musician.

Nicks started writing her own songs when she was a teenager. They shared a close bond and had a strong musical partnership. Stevie joined San Jose State College in 1968 but she dropped out. After her family moved again to California, Stevie and Buckingham joined a band called Fritz but disbanded in 1971. In 1972, they signed a contract with Polydor Records and began their professional career.

Career

In 1975, after the guitarist of Fleetwood Mac quit the band, they requested Buckingham to join their band but refused the offer unless Stevie was a part of the deal. Thereafter, they accepted and signed a contract in 1975. The newly formed band quickly recorded an album that went straight No. 1 and sold more than 3 million copies.

During her tour in 1976, she has a strained voice and so, she sought medical attention and there was a chaos in the band as during this time the band members were also going through tough times as, The McVies decided to divorce, Nicks and Buckingham were in the midst of a split and Fleetwood and his wife had also separated. Their next album ‘Rumours’ was again released in 1977 and were a record-setting hit album. It places to number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for around 31 weeks and went platinum in the US and the UK and they were awarded a Grammy’s Award for it in 1978.

Stevie left the band and released a solo album in 1985, and the singer also had started abusing alcohol and drugs and started taking therapies. In 1993, she ended her addiction and returned to recording songs. In 1997, their band reunited and went on a tour that earned them around $36 millions of dollars. In 2014, she was featured in a cable drama called American Horror Story, in one of the episodes, she played herself in the series. Stevie Nicks net worth is estimated to be around $75 million as her income came not only from her band but also as a solo artist.
