Special Ed (born Edward K. Archer) was born on May 16, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York. He is of Jamaican descent. Edward was raised in Flatbush and later moved to Canarsie. His parents are Jamaican immigrants. He also has four siblings. In the school times, when he was just sixteen years old, Edward started his hip-hop's music career. As he said once for the Flavor journal "School put me on to rapping, and I made my vocabulary, you can't rap without a vocabulary. So during the years I gathered my own vocabulary, I learned interesting words and I put it all to use". When he was 15, Ed met music producer as well as a DJ Howie Tee. Due to Howie’s work, Edward presented his material at the local club. Afterwards, H. Tee took him into a studio.


In the 1989 he recorded such compositions like “I Got It Made”, “I'm The Magnificent” as well as “Think About It”. It was unexpected for him, so after his big success he made a deal with Howie Tee and signed a contract. At the same time he released his first musical album, which was titled “Youngest in Charge”. It was his real breakthrough time, his debut album sold more than half a million copies. The next year Edward recorded and released his second album “Legal” with such singles like “Come On Let's Move It”, “Olympics”, “Livin' Like a Star” and “The Mission”. In the 1995, Special Ed released his third album, which was titled “Revelations”. It was pretty successful, thanks to his song “Freaky Flow” as well as popular single “Neva Go Back”.

In addition to his solo career, Edward was involved in a supergroup, which was titled “Crooklyn Dodgers”. His band mates were Kenyatta Blake and Duval Clear, who mostly known by his stage name Masta Ace. Together they made a few songs for an official soundtrack of movies like “Clockers” and “Crooklyn”, which was directed by Spike Lee.

The greatest hits album, which was titled “The Best of Special Ed” was released in the 2000. In the 2004 was released another album “Still Got It Made” under his own label "Semi". It was the last studio album by Special Ed. He also appeared in few movie projects like “Ganked” and “Juice”. Edward played a fictional rapper JT Freeze in the TV show “The Cosby Show”.

Edward was married, but the details about his marriage is not available on any social media. It is known, that he is divorced and he has a kid. In fact, in the 2014 he got to a jail in North Carolina, because of non support of children. He likes to keep his personal life to himself. There is no any news about his relationship and dating.
