Karl Urban is a 45 year old actor from New Zealand who is commonly known for portraying Eomer in the II and III parts of the Lord of the Rings film. Apart from LOTR, Karl also enacted in ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ and ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’.


Personal life

Karl Urban’s birthplace is Wellington, New Zealand. He was born on 7th June, 1972. His father was an immigrant from Germany who owned a leather goods shop while his mother worked for film facilities. His mother’s job opened many doors for Karl to work in the film industry. He was exposed to New Zealand cinema, from where he inculcated a desire to become an actor. Karl did his schooling from St. Mark’s Church School, where everybody knew about his passion for acting.

Karl Urban did his first acting role at an age of eight when he was given just one line in an episode of ‘Pioneer Woman’, which was a television series in New Zealand. Even though he continued participating in school theater, he did not turn a professional until his high school. He studied at Wellington College for four years before enrolling himself at Victoria University of Wellington. He dropped out after one year to pursue his ultimate dream of acting. He appeared in various local television commercials over the next few years. Soon he shifted to Auckland, where he enacted in ‘Shark in the Park’ television show.

Karl Urban married Natalie Wihongi in September 2004. They had two kids named Hunter and Indiana. The couple lived in Auckland before announcing their separation in June 2014. Urban has been dating Katee Sackhoff since his divorce. Apart from his acting career, Karl also works for several charities. He is also an ambassador for KidsCan.

Career

Karl Urban enacted in the tv series ‘Hercules: The Legendary Journeys’ and also on it’s spin-off ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’. He played roles of Julius Carsar and Cupid for five years in these series. He also appeared as Mael in the episode ‘Altared States’. In 2001, he was seen in the romantic film ‘The Prince of Milk’. He received his first nomination for this film. Karl won the Qantas Film and Television Award for being the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in the year 2008 for portraying a policeman named Nick Harvey in ‘Out of the Blue’.

Karl Urban received his very first Hollywood role in a horror film named ‘Ghost Ship’ in 2002. Since his debut film, Karl has worked on many classic movies including the LOTR trilogy, The Bourne Supremacy, Star Trek, The Chronicles of Riddick and Doom. He portrayed Dr. Leonard McCoy in ‘Star Trek’ film in year 2009. He received many appreciations for this film. In the same year, he enacted himself in a documentary named ‘Reclaiming the Blade’ wherein he discussed his experience in sword-wielding in LOTR. He also appeared as William Cooper, a CIA Agent in ‘Red’. Karl Urban has been an active part of the Hollywood film industry for twenty seven years.
