James Blunt, whose name is actually James Hillier Blount, is a songwriter and singer from England. He debuted in 2004 with his album Back to Bedlam and then followed up with All the Lost Souls, Some Kind of Trouble, and Moon Landing. He has chart-toppers such as You’re Beautiful and Stay the Night to his credit. His albums have sold 20 million copies internationally, making him one of the top-league singers of the world today.


He was formerly in the military. He was with the British Army Cavalry in a division known as Life Guards. He fought in the Kosovo Conflict of 1999. He is also a part of Doctors Without Borders, and voluntary serves them even to this day. Another charity he works for is Help for Heroes.

His recording company was previously EMI, and currently, he is contracted with Atlantic Records and Custard Records.

Early Life and Beginning of Career

James Blunt was born on February 22, 1974 to Charles Blount and Jame Amos. He was the oldest of their three children. His family had a long line of military officers. His birthplace was Tidworth in Wiltshire, England, and he was born at a military hospital. In his childhood, he lived in various places such as Cley with his grandparents and Strensall, and spent some time in neighboring countries such as Cyprus and Germany. He has a great interest in motorcycles and flying, earning both licenses at the age of 16.

He studied at the Elstree School in Berkshire and then continued at Harrow School. He is an alumnus of the University of Bristol. The subjects he studied at University were aerospace engineering and sociology. He completed his sociology graduation in 1996.

Blunt was motivated to take up a music career when he saw an older boy playing the guitar. He wrote his first songs at the age of 14. When he continued his passion in his military service of four and a half years too, he contacted Elton John’s manager, Todd Interland. Through him, he signed up with EMI records and then moved on to Linda Perry’s Custard Records.

Success as a Musician

James Blunt has released four albums so far – Back to Bedlam, All the Lost Souls, Some Kind of Trouble, and Moon Landing. He has attained major successes with all four albums. His debut album Back to Bedlam had the hit songs Goodbye My Lover, You’re Beautiful, and Wisemen, whose lyrics he wrote. This album became the biggest selling album of the UK of the 2000s decade.

During his second album, he also worked with a documentary titled James Blunt: Return to Kosovo. Currently, he has replaced Ronan Keating in The X Factor Australia.

Personal Life

James Blunt lives in Ibiza. He also owns property in Switzerland in a town named Verbier. He married Alexandrina Sofia Wellesley in 2014. His wife is the daughter of Lord and Lady Wellesley and the granddaughter of the Duke of Wellington. They have one child. His current net worth is estimated to be $18 million.

He has won awards at the 2006 Brit Awards for Best British Male Singer and Best Pop Act.
