Early Life and Beginning of Career

Callie Thorne was born as Calliope Thorne on November 20, 1969. Her birthplace is in Boston in Massachusetts. She has a mixed ethnic heritage which includes British, Italian, Portuguese, Armenian, and Assyrian from both her parents’ sides.

She has had formal education in acting. She graduated from the Wheaton College in Norton with a degree in theater and drama literature. She is also an alumna of the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute that is situated in New York City. She completed her formal graduation in 1987 from the Lincoln-Sudbury High School.

When she was in school itself, she made people take notice of her acting talent. She was chosen to play the role of Anita in her school’s interpretation of West Side Story.

Acting Career

Thorne’s first movie role was in 1996 in a little-known movie known as Ed’s Next Move. After this, she appeared in a few shorts and inconsequential roles in movies such as Turbulence, Next Stop Wonderland, Chocolate for Breakfast, and Giving It Up. However, she got her first big break on TV as a long-running character named Laura Ballard on the show Homicide: Life on the Street. This role garnered a lot of attention. She was also featured in Homicide: The Movie, which was a movie version of the show.

A lot of Thorne’s TV work has been in crime-related shows. She has made appearances on several variations of Law & Order, Prison Break, Californication, and the recent The Wire. She has also appeared on Royal Pains, White Collar, Burn Notice, and Elementary among other shows. Among these, she also acted in the NBC police drama The Mysteries of Laura. She is also the lead actress in the show Necessary Roughness, which has brought her a Gracie Allen Award in 2012. She also won a Golden Globe nomination for best actress for the same performance.
