Vinny Guadagnino

Vinny Guadagnino is a reality television star and actor. He is most famous for his role on the popular reality TV show, Jersey Shore which aired on MTV.

Background

Vincent "Vinny" Guadagnino was born on November 11, 1987 in Staten Island, New York. He grew up with two siblings. Being raised in New York with Italian origins was very fitting for Vinny’s upbringing.

His mother was born in the city of Sicily located in Italy. The farm of his family was actually visited by the cast of Jersey Shore during their fourth season.

He is a graduate of Susan E Wagner High School and went to SUNY New Platz. After high school, he graduated from the College of Staten Island and got an impressive 3.9 GPA. He worked as a political aide for a New York State Assemblyman.

Jersey Shore Fame

After the initial success of Jersey Shore, the fans thought it would never end. After multiple popular seasons, the show finally did end as the members outgrew the show. Fans of the show hoped for a reunion. When they finally got their wish, TV Insider asked Vinny why the cast of Jersey Shore decided to get back together,  “I think we saw what out there on TV. I felt the world was lacking something. Everyone can get a sense of it. As soon as they asked us to do it, we couldn’t believe it. We saw it as an amazing second chance opportunity. Let’s give the world what they’ve been missing. It’s instant feedback. You can see what people are saying to you and about you.”

When asked what convinced him to come back on the show, he said "Things go viral so quickly now. We have so many catchphrases and all the gifs and memes…It keeps spreading awareness of what is going on. It’s like one old school AOL chatroom when you would talk and see who was online. Now it’s like the entire world is watching it together and making each other laugh. So that’s my favorite part of doing it now.”

He wanted the fans to appreciate the hard work that they put in behind the scenes, “People don’t know how hard this business is. To get a show in the first place. We know now because we’ve had some time off and living in the real world trying to sell TV shows and trying to be successful without Jersey Shore. People don’t realize how difficult this business is to even get one chance at something great.”

Acting Career After The Shore

From his success on Jersey Shore, Vinny Guadagnino started getting into traditional acting. He describes himself like a natural entertainer and he has a passionate interest in acting while focusing more on the comedy end. He was a guest star on the scripted comedy series for MTV known as The Hard Times of RJ Berger where he played the cousin of RJ.

In 2011, in one episode of 90210, he played a small role and he reprised it during another season of 90210. He appeared on a Syfy original movie under the name of Jersey Shore Shark Attack. MTV produced his own talk show under the name of The Show With Vinny and it started in 2013. The show featured celebrities who were coming to his home to talk and to have a dinner with the entire family.

Charity Work

Vinny Guadagnino has a clothing brand known as IHAV which stands for I Have a Vision with a strong message saying Fuck Bullies. The proceeds from the clothing line are donated to the charity, Do Something to get grants for their anti-bullying programs and projects. He supports an animal rescue organization called Much Love and he participated in their charity auction. He is a supporter for gay rights and he had been a presenter of GLAAD awards and NOH Campaigns. Vinny Guadagnino is a co-author with Samantha Rose of a book called Control The Crazy: My Plan to Strop Stressing, Avoid Drama and Maintain Inner Cool.

Controversies

Vinny Guadagnino had been involved in his share of controversies. Once he posted a song on YouTube that was said to glorify rape and he had to apologize and he tried to cover his tracks by saying it was just meant to be funny. He also called Nicki Minaj a bitch talking about incident when the wanted to take a picture with her. Cipha Sounds, a personality of Hot 97 also echoed the same thoughts saying that Minaj once kicked him out from his own studio.

On the show, he said that there were a couple of times where he was drunk in the club and doing some things that made his girlfriend at the time uncomfortable. He started to look at himself and calling himself an asshole. He felt he was doing what normal people do when they go out and get blacked out drunk. The difference was that he and the other cast members had to look back and have the whole world watch and be under a magnifying glass and get judged.

He drew backlash from fans for flirting with bottle girls at a club because they felt he wasn’t being faithful to his girlfriend. He would call his then girlfriend Elicea Shyann after nights out to try to show that he was loyal even though he was out flirting with other women.

He understood that at the surface level, the fans interpret it as a show that puts it out there with headlines like, ‘Vinny is a giant cheater.’ He wants fans to understand that the show is edited for entertainment and doesn’t always represent the full story. He doesn’t want to be seen as a slime ball just because he made a few mistakes.
