Terri Carrington

Terri Carrington was born in the year 1965 and she won Grammy Awards for three times as an entrepreneur, record producer, singer, composer and jazz drummer. She had played with Yellowjackets, Al Jarreau, Joe Sample, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Clark Terry, Stan Getz and Dizzy Gillespie. She was on tour with musical configuration of Hancock. She is now a professor at Berklee College of Music where he got an honorary doctorate in the year 2003. She is an artist director at Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival.


Terri Carrington was born in the city of Medford in the state of Massachusetts. Her family was always in music. For her parents, her mother was playing a piano but like a hobby while the father was a saxophonist and also a Boston Jazz Society’s president. When she was seven years, she got the first drum set and it was from her grandfather called Matt Carrington. Her grandfather played with Chu Berry and Fats Waller. She got private lessons in three years and gave the first major performance with Wichita Jazz Festival together with Clark Terry.

When she was 11 years old, she was given a scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music. At the age of 12 years, she was included at Rebop at PBS kids. When she was at the college, she was working with some musicians like Greg Osby, Donald Harrison and Kevin Eubanks. She did also her studies with drum instructor called Alan Dawson and recorded TLC and Friends together with her father, George Coleman, Buster Williams and Kenny Barron. She traveled around colleges and schools.

During the year 1983, because of the encouragement with the mentor Jack DeJohnette, he moved to live in New York and there she was working with David Sanborn, Cassandra Wilson, Pharaoh Sanders, Lester Bowie, James Moody and Stan Getz. In the year 1980s, Carrington went to live in Los Angeles and she got known when she was at late night TV where she worked as a house drummer of The Arsenio Hall Show.

In the 1990s, she was working like drummer at night show called VIBE that was being hosted by the Sinbad. She was the collaborator of Peabo Bryson with Always Reach for Your Dreams song which got commissioned by Olympic Games of 1996. She had worked as a band leader of many bands with different people. She becomes a recording leader in the year 1998 where she started to concentrate more efforts in producing and writing her work.

From his biography, Terri Carrington got married to Rodney Carrington in the year 2012. Even if they had tried making the marriage work, it was ended at the end. They divorced after 18 years. He broke the news about the divorce during a phone interview from The Free Press. His net worth is 6 million dollars.
