Santita Jackson was born in 1963 in Greensboro North Carolina and the oldest daughter of Jesse Jackson Sr and Jacqueline Lavinia Brown Jackson. Santita grew up in Chicago, and she has three siblings: Jonathan, Jesse Jr., and Yusef.


The family is a line of public servants. Jesse Jackson, her father, is an American civil rights activist, politician and Baptist Minister. Jesse Louis Jackson Jr was an American politician served as a congressman for Illinois's 2nd congressional district. Santita’s other sibling Jonathan Jackson is a social justice advocate serves as a spokesperson for a non-profit organization-- Rainbow/PUSH Coalition.

Santita attended John J. Pershing Elementary School, and she was a National Merit Scholar when she attended Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. Santita also attempted to apply for admission to Harvard University. During the interview, she was criticized because of the political view of her father.

Though she was accepted, she refused to attend because of the incident. Santita didn’t think the school is the proper environment for her and subsequently enrolled on a full merit scholarship in Howard University.
