Polly Shannon was born in the year 1973 on September 1st. She spent her early child years in Kingston, Canada. Though she was born in Kingston, she was brought up in Aylmer, Quebec. She belonged to a very educated family. Her father was a doctor and her mother was a screenwriter. Her father worked at Health Canada as a senior doctor.
As he had a lot of experience in the medical field, he had also worked in the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control. He also used to carry on the research work in the laboratory. Due to this, Shannon did not get enough time to spend with her father. Even her mother, Mary Mackay Smith, became busy when she needed her. As she was a screenwriter, she spent most of the time in the sets of the films.
Her mother worked in children’s films and had to spend most time in writing the scripts. She did not have any siblings and thus, she felt very lonely. As she grew up, her mother wanted to make her a model. As she was a screenwriter, she had many sources in the industry. She got involved in the modelling industry even before she stepped in her teenage years. She also started taking theatre training as she always aspired to become an actress.
As a teenager, she was very beautiful also had a perfect figure along with great personality. Even at the initial stage of her modelling career, she started receiving success. After completing her graduation degree, in the year 1992, she started her television career as an actress. Initially, she appeared in the YTV series, Catwalk which portrayed a rock band. After achieving popularity in the show, she was starred in the other popular television series such as Side Effects, Sirens, Ready or Not, the Hunger and many others. She also received a number of nominations for her major television roles. She made her first film appearance in Men with Brooms in the year 2002.
She played the role of Joanne in the film which was appreciated a lot. She was also seen in the miniseries Trudeau which was a biographical film about the late Prime Minister. She was offered the role of Margaret Trudeau in the film. It was a completely different role for her and she enjoyed it a lot.
