Michelle Kwan

Michelle Kwan, born Michelle Wingshan Kwan on 7th July 1980, has been a U.S. figure skater. She won Olympic medals twice in the years 2002 and 1998. She has also been World Champion five times in the years 2000, 2001, 2003, 1998, and 1996. She also won U.S. Championship nine times consecutively from the year 1998 to 2005, and 1996. She has been the most celebrated figure skater in the history of the United States. Also, she has been acclaimed as an all-time greatest figure skater of the United States.


Personal Life

Michelle Kwan spent her early life in Torrance, California, United States, where she was born. Her nationality is American while her ethnicity is Chinese. She is born to Estella Kwan and Danny Kwan. She has been the third child of her parents. She has two siblings; one brother and a sister. Her brother, Ron, has been a player of ice hockey. Her sister, Karen, has also been a figure skater.

As for her education, she joined Soleado Elementary School, Palos Verdes in California. She graduated from Rim belonging to World High School in the year 1998. She also completed one year course of UCLA. It was in the month of June 2009 that she did her graduation from Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies. She obtained bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Political Science from there.

Later, she joined Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and did graduation from there in the year 2011. She showed intense interest in figure skating even when she was only five years old, and started training seriously when she was hardly eight years old.

Michelle is not married for the present. She had previously been married to Clay Pell, a lawyer by profession. They both dated for a number of years before tying the knot. Their engagement took place in the month of September 2012, and married in January 2013. She has been divorced in March 2017.

Career

She started her professional skating career when she was merely eleven years of age. She got ninth place at United States Figure Skating Championships 1991. The event was organized for junior players. She got through successfully the prescribed Gold Test to be included in the senior level when she was just 12. She has won the World Junior Championships in 1994. She has also won a bronze medal in the 2002 Olympics organized in Salt Lake City. She has so far won U.S. Championship nine times, Olympic Medals twice, and World Championships five times.

She also won several awards, and that included Teen Choice Award for Favorite Female Athlete in 2004, and Kid’s & Teens Choice Award in 2002. It was in 2006 that she hanged her ice skating boot. She has been immensely successful in her career as an ice skater, and earned a lot of name and fame including wealth. As per her biography, her salary is not in record, but her net worth is estimated at $1 million.
