Melissa Ann McCarthy was born on August 26, 1970 in Plainfield, Illinois to Sandra and Michael McCarthy. She was raised on a farm, close to Plainfield, in a large religious family. Her father was an Irish. She attended St. Francis Academy in Joliet. She also studied Textiles at Southern Illinois University.

She began her career as a stand-up comedian in Los Angeles, California. There in LA, she also studied in The Groundlings - an improvisational comedy school. She was married to her friend Ben Falcone in the 2005. She met her future husband in early 90s during her studying at The Groundlings. Melissa and Ben are blessed with two daughters. Her first child Vivian was born on May 2007 and second girl on March of 2010. Her oldest daughter also played with her in the movie “The Boss”. Melissa resides with her family in Los Angeles.
