Maya Moore’s full name is Maya April Moore. She grew up to become an athlete that is smart, witty and sexy. She was born in Missouri and she is a daughter of Kathryn Moore. She is grew up on the basketball court and she was exposed to the sport when she was only 3 years old. At that young age, she decided that she wanted to be a successful player.

Maya Moore became a great basketball player when she was going to Collins High School where she became a nominee for the Naismith Player of the Year award. She was small when she won this award but she fought hard for it. She made her first dunk in the Dunk contest of December 2005 when she was still 16.

In the year 2006, she was chosen to be a valuable player for the tournament of the Chandler’s Championship. She got 48 points with her team in the T Mobile Game. This is the time that she also announced that she had plans to play for University of Connecticut in the future.

Maya Moore had been a champion in high school and she became popular for her dominant play. When she participated in the 2007 WBCA high school game, she got 25 points and she earned the honors to lead her team.

Career

Maya had decided to become a basketball champion as a young girl and she reached her dreams when she got to the WNBA finals. She won six championships. She made a great image of a female basketball player for her young fans to look up to.

Maya Moore was the first female player in basketball to sign to the Jordan Brand when she became a draft pick of the WNBA in the year 2011. She joined the Minnesota Lynx team where she became the third leading scorer in the team where she reached to 13.2 points for each game. She is a great player and she won the gold medal for US Women’s Basketball at the London Olympics of 2012.

Social Justice Warrior

In an interview with the Undefeated, Maya spoke about issues outside of basketball. She has been very outspoken when it comes to social issues that deal with the Black community and people from the lower class. Criminal justice reform is very important to Maya because of how she has experienced the downfalls of it during her life.

She explained why the prison system is a big cause for her to spread awareness about, “About 10 years ago, my extended family that I grew up with in Missouri introduced me to a man who had been wrongfully convicted. And that was kind of the first time I had really thought about prison or people in prison, our prison system. His name is Jonathan Irons. And I was just outraged. I said how in the world does this 16-year-old get this sentencing without any physical evidence?”

She really empathized with the young teenager because it was by random chance that he grew up in a community that didn’t give him enough to succeed, “I stepped outside of my middle-class comfort zone that I was raised in to really think, “Oh, if I didn’t have my mom, if I didn’t have my family, if I was a young black man at this time growing up without a lot of money and resources, what would my life be like?””

In the shadow of Colin Kapernick protesting the American customs, there have been other athletes speaking out on social issues. Lebron James even called the president Donald Trump a bum for his views on issues. Many other athletes have followed their lead such as Maya, “I really think some of it has to do with exposure, because we have so much access to information. And you’re seeing more athletes understand as they’ve gotten older, maybe, “I was one decision, one family away from being that person. And I’m really not that much different than this person over here, and I need to say something. I need to do something. I have been blessed with so much. I have a platform. I have a voice. I have financial means.”“

Athletes like Maya are starting to understand the power and influence that they have on the youth. They now have a platform to speak directly to their fan base and don’t have to be held back by their agents or advisers, “It’s contagious when one person decides to speak up for someone that doesn’t have a voice. I think attacking some of the structural, systematic things in our justice system is the next level of all this momentum.”

Personal Life

For her personal life details, Maya Moore is known to be of good and positive thinking but it is hard to get information about her current boyfriend or other affairs she may have involved into because she is a very private person. She is a Christian and she is planning to fall in love but right now her priority is basketball.
