Mariska Hargitay was able to make her name when she played Olivia Benson on the TV hit Law and Order: Special Victim Unit. She is a daughter of a legend in Hollywood called Jayne Mansfield. She was born in 1964 in California. She studied in UCLA but she had to drop out so that she can continue with an acting career. However, this move paid off slowly. When she got minor roles on the TV and other Big Screen, she made a break through when she got a role in playing ER and she landed her lifetime role playing Olivia Benson at Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. This is the role that led to the stardom and she got a Golden Globe with an Emmy for this role.

Hargitay is a daughter to a body builder born in Hungary and past Mr Universe called Mickey Hargitay with a legend in Hollywood known as Jayne Mansfield. She was born in the year 1964 in California. Her mother died when she was three years old as a result of accident. She was riding with her three children when she rammed in the tractor trailer and she died but the children suffered only minor injuries. After growing up, she suffered some depression because of the accidents and she gained weight but was able to lose it afterwards.
Hargitay went to live with her father in Beverly Hills where she grew up and there she attended Marymount High schools. This is an all-girl catholic school. She was given the title of Miss Beverly Hills in the year 1982, she did theater In UCLA and she debut her acting career on TV in Falcon Crest of Jane Wyman in the year 1984. After few years, she dropped out of the college so that she can start to act on full time basis and she made appearance on the big screen in the Film Ghoulies for the first time. Even if she has a pedigree of Hollywood already, her career was not easy and she did appear in the Downton which is a TV series in the year 1986. She played in the Jocks after a year and got a returning role on Falcon Crest.
When she is not working, Hargitay is raising her family or participating in different events. Her husband is actor Peter Hermann; she met her when she was on the SVU set. They gave birth to a son called August in 2011 and soon afterwards they adopted another son and a daughter. She gave birth to her first son in 2006, through Caesarian Section and she was already 42 years old. The other two kids come one month after the other. It is believed that she has a net worth of 45 million dollars and that she was given 400,000 dollars per episode.
