Jesse Martin is an American singer and actor who is best known for originating the legendry character of Tom Collins in the movie Broadway. His work in The Flash as detective Joe west and character detective Ed Green in the movie Law & Order has become part of his fans’ memory.

Jesse Lamont Martin was born on January 18, 1969 in Rocky Mount, Virginia. Jesse Reed Watkins, his father was a truck driver. His mother, Virginia Price was a college counsellor. He is the third of his parent’s five sons. His parents split when he was a child. His mother remarried and he adopted the surname of his stepfather.
His family moved to Buffalo New York when martin was in school. Because of his southern accent he was overcome with shyness and started hated speaking. Once he was casted in the after school drama there he performed the character of a southern Baptist preacher. This act was a hit and it helped Martin to break the shell around him. In his school, The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, he was voted for the Most Talented in the senior class. Later he was enrolled in the New York University’s Ticsh School of the Arts.
After completing graduation Jesse L. Martin toured the states with The Acting Company. He performed in several small projects that could not bring him to lime light. He used to wait tables in a number of restaurants around the city and often give the customers their dinner checks while saying to keep it with them as someday he will be famous. He made his Broadway debut in the Timon of Athens. In the year 2010 Martin rejoined the stage and performed in the marvellous productions of The Merchant of Venice as well as The Winter’s Tale. He played the characters of Gratiano and King Polixenes respectively.
He also appeared on TV shows like 413 Hope St. and the independent film Restaurant. His character of Dr. Greg Butters inspired David Duchovny and he cast this talented actor in the 1999 episode of The X-Files called the Unnatural.
From 1999 until 2008 he performed the role of Detective Edward ‘Ed’ Green in “Law & Order”. In this project he has been the 5th longest serving crew member. Final episode having Martin was aired April 2008 as Anthony Anderson replaced him. He was also cast as Detective West in the project of The Flash, a spin-off from Arrow in 2014. Law & Order: Justice is served’ is the video game for which martin voiced the character of Ed Green.
The wonderful performer returned to buffalo, New York to perform in an independent movie named Buffalo Bushido.
