Personal Life
According to his biography, G.W. Bailey took birth in the city of Port Arthur situated in the state of Texas, on the date 27th August 1944, with the name George William Bailey given to him. He completed his high school from the Thomas Jefferson High School of Port Arthur alongside famous personalities like Janis Joplin and Jimmy Johnson. He initially started his college education at the Lamar University, located in Beaumont, but he changed his college to the Texas Tech University, located in Lubbock, where he studied law.
Bailey dropped out of college to follow his initial interest in the field of acting after having a talk with his very good friend, Barry Corbin, who suggested him to follow up acting as he was really talented. He returned to complete his college education in the year 1993 and graduated with bachelor’s degree in the subject of Fine Arts and Theatre from the Texas State University situated in San Marcos.
He earned the title of “Artist-In-Residence” for the school year of 1999 to 2000. The actor married his longtime girlfriend, Eleanor Jane Goosby, in the year 1966 and they spent 33 years together before getting a divorce in the year 1999. They have 2 children together and he spends a lot of quality time with them. He is currently single as he couldn’t get himself to remarry after his first failed marriage.
Career
G.W. Bailey started his career in the field of acting after he first dropped out of law school and joined the Lubbock Theatre Center and became its director of arts in the year 1966. He then moved to California around 1975 and started doing roles in the television series like “Charlie’s Angels” and “Starsky and Hutch”. He moved up the ladder of fame and did his first big screen role in the movie “A Force of One” which was produced by Chuck Norris.
Bailey’s most groundbreaking role was in the television series “M*A*S*H” where he played the character, Rizzo. He did several television movies in the “Bible Collection” series between the years of 1990 and 2000. He is considered to be one of the greatest stage actors and he is one of the members of the very prestigious committee of stage actors named Actor’s Theatre of Louisville since the 1970s.
He has worked as a philanthropist by being the Executive Director of the Sunshine Kids Foundation in the year 2001. This foundation helps the kids suffering from cancer by sponsoring trips and fun activities for them. He is still working in the television industry even though he is almost 73 years old and he stars in the series “Major Crimes where he plays the character, Detective Lieutenant Louie Provenza.
