Chris Moneymaker

Chris Moneymaker is a professional American poker player. He has made a living out of playing the game with an innovative technique, which is now referred to as the Moneymaker Effect. This technique was developed by him at an online poker website which was then put to use by him in the 2003 World Series of Poker. He became the eventual winner of this tournament and was covered widely by the online and offline presses. He also made a few documentaries and movies about his story, which is now found on his wiki and other places. This is a short biography of the personality.


Early Life

Chris Moneymaker’s real name is Christopher Bryan Moneymaker. He is of German ancestry. His ancestors were involved in the minting of gold and silver coins in the olden times, which were used as currency back then. Hence, their surname was Nurmacher, which in English translates to Moneymaker. He uses this surname in his professional life.

He was born on November 21, 1975 in Atlanta in Georgia. He learned at the Farragut High School in Knoxville. He had his formal education at the University of Tennessee where he did post-graduation in accounting. He has previously worked at a local restaurant and as an accountant.

Becoming a Poker Champ

Moneymaker participated in the World Series of Poker in 2003 through online participation. He played in an online poker room. He was an ignominy before the tournament, but his skills came to the fore during this event, when he drew the attention of stalwarts like Lou Diamond. He won against Sam Farha, a victory that was keenly observed by poker enthusiasts from across the world. The title of the WSOP winner was finally bestowed upon Moneymaker. He later spoke of a special technique that helped him win, which is now known as the Moneymaker Technique.

Today, Moneymaker is an established name in the world of poker. He is closely followed and is considered as a champion. He has now won several other tournaments at an international level.

Moneymaker published his book titled Moneymaker which has become a worldwide hit among poker enthusiasts. This book is almost autobiographical and details his special gameplay techniques. His interactions with several poker personalities are also showcased in the book. He was also covered in the magazine All In for his special technique, the Moneymaker Effect.

Personal Life

Moneymaker brought his first wedding to a close in 2004 through a divorce, which was shortly after his WSOP victory. He took the onus of the divorce upon himself saying that his wife could not cope with the frenzied lifestyle he had begun to lead after his victory. He has a daughter with his first wife, whose name is Ashley. He married again in 2005, and his current wife’s name is Christina Wren. They own a spacious house in Nashville in Tennessee where the family resides.

He has appeared in documentaries such as Deal, All In, and No Limit, all of them movies based on poker. Currently, his net worth is estimated at $3.5 million, most of which is through his winnings at his favorite game, poker.
