Carmen Ejogo was born in the year 1973 on October 22nd. She was brought up in Kensington, London, England as the first daughter of Charles Ejogo and Elizabeth. Her father was from a Nigerian background but as her parents got divorced just after her birth, she has grew up in a Scottish culture because her mother belonged from the same background. She and her brother started living with their mother while her father had set up another marital relationship.
Her mother took up some part time jobs to fund their livelihood and education but as she was not highly qualified, she had to change several jobs. Her brother had to leave his education midway when he was in the high school due to the lack of money. Her brother tried business opportunities from a very early age. She initially went to the Oratory Roman Catholic Primary School but as her mother failed to pay the fees, she was dropped out from the school. After that, she attended the Glendower Preparatory School but as she had to shift to some other place due to her mother's job, she later went to the Godolphin and Latymer School.
When she was only seven years old, she developed a strong interest towards music. Her mother was also a good singer but she never chose it as her profession. She initially took music lessons from her mother but as there was always a financial crisis, she could not attend any music classes. After completing her high school graduation, she did not go to the university for further education.
She appeared in some reality shows to show her music talents as she always aspired to become a musician. In the year 1990, she stepped into the music industry to begin her career as a professional singer. She launched her first music video on the BSB’s Power Station channel which is named as The Carmen Ejogo Video Show. This music video became very popular among the people and she began her career as a song writer. She recorded many singles as well as duets for the next few years. Her passion for music helped her to step into the film industry in the year 2000.
She was seen as a vocal artist in the films Love’s Labour’s Lost, Sparkle and more. She was seen in the films like Perfume, I Want You, Selma, The Avengers, Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them, Boycott, Born to be Blue, It Comes at Night, Sparkle and more. She also earned fame in the television industry and has appeared in the shows like Zero Hour, Tube Tales, CHAOS, M.O.N.Y. , Kidnapped, Cold Lazarus, Lackawanna Blues and many others.
She married her teenage love Tricky but the couple divorced in the year 1998. Later, in the year 2000 she married Jeffrey Wright whom she met in the sets of Boycott. The couple also have a daughter and a son from each other. In the year 2014, the couple got divorced and now, the children stays with her.
