Personal Life

Ava Marie Duverney, commonly called by her fans, as Ava Duverney, was born in 1972, on the 24th August. As per her biography, the filmmaker was born in Long Beach, California. By her nationality, she is an American. She was brought up by parents since childhood in Lynwood, which is located in California, near Compton.

This famous personality, in her career worked as a film distributor, an agent in the marketing of the film, a screenwriter as well as a director of American films. She used to study in the Saint Joseph High School, which was situated in Lakewood. She had pursued her graduation from the same school in 1990. Later, she managed to add to her academic career by studying at the University of California, located in Los Angeles. She was qualified with a double degree in English and American and African studies.

The film “Selma” made by her was an inspiration from her childhood, when she used to spend the days of her summer vacation in her father’s ancestral home. Before joining the entertainment industry, she used to work as a journalist at the CBS News channel, from which she got interested in journalism. Later, she quit her job related to journalism and opened a new firm of her own dealing in public relations.

The name of this firm run and managed by her was named “The DuVernay Agency”. Ava Duvernay is not married, at present. There is no news on the internet regarding who her possible husband would be. Her net worth is of 3 million dollars.

Career

Duvernay has, throughout her career, given a considerable number of interviews for a lot of movies and TV shows, which are directed by her. Ava’s first directorial project was done by her in the year of 2008. She did a documentary called “This Is the Life”, which was based on history of LA, involved in “Good Life Café’”.

Her first film of a narrative style was made by her in 2011 named “I Will Follow”. In 2011, itself she engaged herself in the production of her second project of a film called “Middle of Nowhere”. The 2014 release film, “Selma” was of a budget around 20 million dollars directed by her about the famous personality, Martin Luther King Jr.

 This film which is very close to her heart, inspired from her childhood days, had been of a great success and was nominated for several categories of awards like the Best Original Song award, Best Picture Award etc.  The “13th”, her imdb project, and “A Wrinkle in Time” are also of noteworthy efforts and really made her a successful movie director. She also directed a number of TV shows like ”Queen Sugar”, “Vermont is For Lovers”, an episode in “Scandal”.
