Thomas Dekker was born on 6 September 1984. He was born in Amsterdam. There is no information available about his parents but it is known that he had no sibling. It is known that his childhood was spend in Dirkshorn in Netherlands and he completed his schooling in Netherlands itself. He is a well-known cyclist who represented his country in nationals as well as zonal games.


He started his career in 2002 with one of the championships that he won. Later in 2003 he got a chance to join the team of Rabobank. He won national game in the under 23 category. The same year he won a bronze in UCI Road World Championships. 2004 proved to be a lucky year for Thomas as he was announced as the winner of ‘Tour de Normandie’. The same year he got a chance to race in summer Olympics but luck wasn’t at his side as he couldn’t win the race. He won several other awards that year.

In 2005, he won several times in Dutch National Time Trial Championship. Again in 2006 he won Tirreno Adriatico stage race. Thomas became the third Dutch cyclist to win the title. In 2007 he placed in Tour de France but he could not win it. Later in 2008 he resigned from Rabobank. The same year he was accused of failing doping test. It was proved that he was using performance enhancing drugs. Later in 2008, Thomas made a contract with Silence Lotto. The contract was for two years.

In 2009, Thomas won more races during the Tour of Switzerland. The same year he was again in trouble for the use of banned substance. His contract with Silence Lotto was terminated before the stipulated time for the same reason. He was not allowed to participate in tour of France and the issue was escalated. Later in a press conference, Thomas accepted that he used drugs and because of this he was also suspended from the sports for 2 years. He was banned from racing till 1 July 2011.

After the term of suspension got over, Thomas returned to the arena. He signed the contract with Garmin and it took him a few months to get back in form. After coming back, the first race that he excelled in was ‘Duo Normand Team Time Trial’. After coming back, he never failed the doping test as he got a lesson the hard way. Thomas was associated with the team for next 2 years.

He had won several award during his careers owing to his hard work. He was lucky that he got a chance to perform again after getting stuck in the doping case. He also won millions of heart during the career and later he said good bye to the sports in 2014. He had support of several fans and he surely had a successful career.
