Once, she was engaged to a conservative author Dartmouth alumnus Dinesh D'Souza. After meeting him, she decided to get married and wanted to make him her husband.

She announced her engagement in 2005 to James V. Reyes who was a businessman but after some days she cancelled the engagement because she had breast cancer. Ultimately, she broke up the relationship and they remained good friends. She adopted three children named Maria Caroline, Michael Dmitri and Nikolai Peter. Her decision for adoption was well received by the public.
