Background

She is the third child of the medical professionals. Her father was Dr. Jeffery Bolduan and her mother, Nadine was a registered nurse. Bolduan spent her childhood in the Goshen area of Indiana. She has three siblings and showed interest in dancing and sports as a young girl. The Bolduans are a tight knit family. Even though the children have grown and moved on in life, they still support each other.

Her love for both dancing and athletics led to her becoming a cheerleader. She won the Junior Miss 2000 title in Goshen when she sang show tunes in the talent search part of the competition. She was a high school salutatorian. She graduated from George Washington University in the 2005 with a degree in Journalism. She also participated in stage acting and volleyball during her university years. Her journalism course in college sparked her passion for reporting and was the start of her successful career.

Kate told Marie Claire what her first ever job was, “My first job was in high school, I persuaded my dad and the other doctors in his Indiana complex to ditch their expensive lawn-care service and pay me to cut the grass. It was an easy job, and I could tan at the same time. “

Broadcasting Career

Those who are driven and brave enough to even pursue jobs in television networks struggle through the early stages of grueling hours and little pay. For Kate Bolduan, she was on the other side of the coin as rising to the top was easy for. It took her just eight years to rise from an intern with the NBC News to get to co-host in CNN’s The Situation Room. Her work includes feature stories, breaking news reports, and custom live reports.

She got off to a great start in her career of television journalism when she started as production assistant in NBC News and MSNBC. She later served as general assignment reporter for WTVD-TV which was located in Raleigh. She started her career at CNN in 2007. She was 24 years old when she was made the national correspondent for CNN Newsource. She provided breaking news reports and other feature stories for over 800 CNN Newsource affiliates. In recognition of her coverage of news stories, she was honored with the News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Coverage of a Current News Story - Long Form. She credits her success to her parents who provided her with the best family situation while she was growing up.

Kate has some advice for aspiring journalists, “My best career advice is ‘Don't follow in someone else's footsteps. Create your own. It takes courage, confidence, and maybe a little risk, but that's what finding success is all about.’  There's never really "punching out" in news. I leave the office around noon, but my BlackBerry is always by my side. I love the iPhone for taking pictures and Instagram, but I just can't give up my BlackBerry for e-mail. I'm living my career highlight as we speak. I've never worked harder or had more fun than I am right now.”

Family Life

Bolduan is married to Michael David Gershenson. They reside in Washington D.C. Bolduan converted to Judaism before her marriage to Michael.

Michael David Gershenson is a real estate expert in the investment company, Carlyle Group. They married in 2010. The happily married couple are sincerely devoted to each other, and eagerly awaited the birth of their first child in October 2014. Gershenson and Bolduan have set up their home in a quiet neighborhood to get away from the hectic city life. Bolduan has a spotless record both in her career and personal life. She did not have an affair or secret boyfriend no previous marriage or any relationship drama.

Kate shared some personal details about her daily life in an interview, “My morning routine starts at 2:30 a.m., the alarm goes off, with two backup alarms set just in case. That leaves 25 minutes to shower, throw on clothes, and head out. I'm at the office by 3:15. My go to breakfast is oatmeal with a little brown sugar, raisins, granola, and peanut butter. Don't knock it till you've tried it. My fitness Regimen is I've recently gotten into Spinning. Working out has become about much more than just staying fit. It is the absolute best stress reliever and biggest help in getting to bed on time.  For an afternoon pick-me-up, I love fruit Popsicles. They're the perfect sweet treat and can sit in your freezer forever.  I've long been a fan of Daniel Silva's spy series. When a new book comes out, I download it immediately. My greatest weakness is breakfast cereal. I seem to collect boxes. I just can't get enough.”
