Cherie Johnson received much fame for her breezy role in Punky Brewster, where she played the good friend and confidante of the main character Punky. She has been quite active on the acting front apart from Punky Brewster too. She was seen in a long-running role on Family Matters and has made brief appearances on several other shows. Apart from being an actor, she has also produced an indie movie named I Do… I Did! and wrote for a few shows. She also has three novels out in her name.

Early Life and Beginning of Career

Cherie Johnson was born on November 21, 1975. Her birthplace is Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania though her family hails from Puerto Rico. The film connection in her family was an uncle named David Duclon who used to write for several shows and movies. He was the one who found out about Johnson’s talent in front of the stage and insisted that she go on auditions.

Her first appearance as an actress was in Punky Brewster on NBC. The show was pitched by her Duclon himself and he secured the role of Punky’s best friend for Johnson. This show continued in two runs for a total of four years and became quite popular among the teen generation.

Success as an Actress

Johnson continued to get several other roles after that initial start. Family Matters happened in 1990 and went on up to 1998. She played the role of Maxine Johnson in the show. This show was again very well-received.

During this period, she did a lot of small appearances on other shows as well. Some of the notable performances were in The Proud Family, Days of Our Lives, and The Parkers. She also appeared in Proper Manor and The Therapist.

She also appeared in several movies. One of these was I Do… I Did!. Other films in her repertoire include Nobody Smiling, Lights Out, and Guardian of Eden.

As an Author

Cherie Johnson is the author of three novels. Her first book was Around the World Twice which she brought out in 2010. This was followed by a short poetry book the next year, which was a collection of the poems that appeared in her movie I Do… I Did!. She also wrote Peaches & Cream. Her most recent book is Stupid Guys Diary which was released in 2014. Currently, there are no reports of her writing a further book but she contributes to several publications such as Temptation, Dimez, and Glam Couture.

Personal Life

Cherie Johnson is highly secretive about her personal life. She is the mother of a daughter but keeps her away from the media glare.

She conducts workshops on reading on various platforms provided by the Shadow Play Entertainment company. On her Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, she is vocal about her love for music and sports. She cites Dr. Dre and Prince as her most-cherished music artists of all time. She also works with children on various charitable programs.
