Cheech Marin

Cheech Marin is a famous television personality. He is also a popular stand-up television actor of the industry. He has gained a lot popularity for his appearances on several comedy shows. He is also a recognised voice actor of the industry.


Cheech Marin, actually known as Richard Anthony Marin, was born in the year 1946 on July 13th. He was brought up in Los Angeles, California. His father, Oscar Marin was a policeman and worked in the LAPD and his mother Elsa worked as a secretary. As a child, he was handicapped and he had a cleft lip. As he grew up, he recovered. As he grew up in a Mexican American, his English had a different accent. He went to the Bishop Elementary High School.

He had a knack for learning new languages and knew Spanish along with English. Though his Spanish was not fluent, but he practised it whenever he had free time. He also showed great interest in dramatic arts but never wanted to pursue career as an actor. He had a great humour and used to host the annual programmes of his school. After finishing his high school education, he went to the San Fernando Valley State College.

He had joined the university to earn a bachelor's degree in dramatic arts but he devoted most of his time to the Phi Sigma Kappa group. His studies detoriated due to this and even his attendance had to suffer a lot. When he was in the final year, he was dropped out from the University for not maintaining the decorum. He did not want to waste more time for his degree and wanted to make a career in music. In the year 1967, he gave several auditions to get a chance to sing in Frank Zappa. During this time, he was giving several auditions and was also appearing for many musical concerts worldwide.

When he was performing in Canada, he met Tommy Chong in a stand-up comedy show. The two soon became a famous stand-up pair, Cheech & Chong. Apart from appearing as a team for several comedy shows, he alone also in many comedy films and albums. During the 1970s and 1980s, he appeared in a number of feature films. In some of the films, he was also seen with his comedy partner Tommy Chong. However, something controversial happened in the year 1985 and the duo could not work together for long on the television screen.

He made many appearances in the films like Tin Cup, Born in East L.A., The Shrimp on the Barbie, Once Upon A Time in Mexico and many more. After his major television works, he released two major music albums the School Bus Driver and My Name is Cheech in the children music genre. In the year 1975, he got married to his Darlene Morley and they also have a child. However, they got divorced and in the year 1986, he married Patti Heid. After they were blessed with two children, the couple got separated. After that, he was dating Natasha Rubin for a long time and the couple got married in the year 2009.
