Antonio Banderas

José Antonio Domínguez Bandera was born on August 10th, 1960 in Malaga, Spain. He is a Spanish actor, singer, director, and producer. His dad, José Domínguez, was a police officer in the Civil Guard, while his mom, Ana Bandera Gallego, was a school teacher. When he was a child, he strongly wanted to become a football player, but he broke his foot, so he had to give up on that career. He started performing on the Theatre-School and the College of Dramatic Art in Malaga, ad he caught the attention of the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, who picked him in the cast of his movie debut “Labyrinth of Passion” (1982).


This was the start of a brilliant career, that brought him to become one of the Hollywood stars. In fact, in the 90’s he played in many important movies, like “Assassins”, “Evita”, “Interview with the Vampire”, “Philadelphia”, “Desperado”, “The Mask of Zorro”, “Take the Lead”, “The Expendables 3” and “Spy Kids”. Banderas is also known as the voice of "Puss in Boots" in the Shrek sequels and in “Puss in Boots”, as well as the bee in the “US Nasonex” commercials.

Banderas got married to Ana Leza in 1986, but they divorced after 10 years in 1996. Then Banderas met and began a relationship with the actress and Hollywood star Melanie Griffith. They met in 1995 while shooting “Two Much”, and they got married the next year, on 14 May 1996 in London. From their union was born in 1996 Stella del Carmen Banderas. In 2015 Banderas and Griffith divorced in a peaceful way.

In 2009, Banderas had a benign tumor removed from his back. Among the many awards of a brilliant career and life, he received in 2010 an honorary doctorate from the University of Malaga, his hometown, and also an honorary degree from Dickinson College in 2000.
