Anthony Mackie

Anthony Mackie is a popular television actor. He has achieved a lot of popularity through his appearance in a number of television series and feature films. He has also received many nominations and awards for his major role plays.


Anthony Mackie was born in the year 1978 on September 23. He grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana in a middle class family. He was the only son of a carpenter, Willie Mackie Sr. and Mather. They also had a small roofing business known as Mackie Roofing. He went to the Warren Easton Sr. High School in their locality. As a student, he was very brilliant so he got the chance in the admission test of the school. From childhood, he had great interest in arts and drama. When he was in high school, he went to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). He pursued studies along with the drama arts and excelled in both the fields.

Later, he went to the North Carolina School of the Arts (NCSA) in the year 1997. He wanted to pursue his career with dramatic arts in the future. After completing his high school education, he attended the Julliard School in the drama division. By the time, he was an active member of the Group 30.

He started trying career opportunities after completing his education with dramatic arts. He appeared on several theatre plays to sharpen his acting skills. Later, in the 2002 he appeared in Topdog/ Underdog which was directed by Suzan-Lori Parks. His appearance in the famous play Talk, directed by Carl Hancock Rux helped him to secure an OBIE Award. He got a great opportunity in the year 2003 when he was starred as Perry in the feature film Brother to Brother. In this film, he was portrayed as an African - American young artist who was struggling through several hurdles of his life to prove his existence as a black homosexual.

In the film 8 mile, he appeared as Papa Doc which earned him a lot of popularity from the viewers. He appeared in a completely different role in the film She Hate Me. His major appearance in the film Million Dollar Baby and The Hurt Locker earned him two Academy Awards in the respective years of 2004 and 2009. He was seen onscreen with popular co-actors like Shareeka Epps and Ryan Gosling in the films We Are Marshall and Half Nelson.

In the year 2009, he appeared in the role of a popular rapper, Tupac Shakur in the film Notorious. After the huge popularity of the film, he was starred in many biopics. He was also seen in the play Up Against the Wind as Shakur in the year 2001. His character as Christopher Walken in A Behading in Spokane was appreciated a lot. He has also appeared in many telefilms and short films. Coming to his personal life, he has married Sheletta Chapital, his long time girlfriend in the year 2015. They still do not have any children and there is also no news about their separation or divorce.
