Alan Cumming

Alan Cumming is an American actor and director of the film industry. He is also popular as a producer and writer. He has written several scripts for many films and dramas. He is also known to be a renowned activist of the society.


Alan Cumming was born in the year 1965 on January 27th. He grew up in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland with his brother and parents. Both his parents belonged from prestigious professions. His father worked in the forest department of the city and his mother was in the position of a secretary in a company. Later, when his father was transferred to Angus, he had to settle there with his family.

He went to the Monikie Primary School as an elementary student. The school was very near to his house and as both his parents worked, he went to the school alone most of the time. He was very sincere as a student from his childhood days. He always scored good marks in the academic fields and has also received many awards. Later, he went to the Carnoustie High School for receiving his high school education.

When he was in high school, he started living in Panmure Estate which is situated in Scotland. He developed a keen interest towards theatre arts and drama. He performed several acts during the annual function of his school. He has received a lot of praises from his friends and teachers which inspired him pursue his passion as his future profession.

He stepped into the film industry in the year 1986. He first appeared was in the film ‘Passing Glory’ which was directed by Gillies MacKinnon. He earned fame and popularity through his acting. He was not at all ready for this debut as he wanted to continue with his theatre career. His next film appearance in the film ‘Prague’ fetched him huge popularity among people. The huge success of the film nominated him in the Atlantic Film Festival which helped him to win the Best Actor Award.

He was also nominated for the Best Actor in the Scottish BAFTA Awards. Next, he was seen in many films like Emma, Circle of Friends, The Anniversary Party, Golden Eye, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Suffering Man’s Charity, Spy Kids, Son of the Mask, Titus, Boogie Woogie, Spice World, The Smurfs, Investigating Sex, Burlesque, Full Gown Men, Ghost Writer, The Tempest, Plunkett and Macleane, X2, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, Spy Kids, Jackboots on Whitehall and many more.

Besides this, he has also earned fame through his television works which include 3rd Rock from the Sun, The Runway, Bernard and the Genie, Who Do You Think You Are?, Take the High Road, Ghosts, Fraiser, The Devil and Bob, Tin Man, Mystery!, The Good Wife, Web Therapy, The L Word and more. He has also received many awards and nominations for his successful television career. Along with this, he is also a very talented theatre actor and has appeared on several dramas and plays.
