Yaya DaCosta took birth in the neighborhood of Harlem in New York City on 15th of November in the year 1982 by the name Camara DaCosta Johnson. She has been brought up amongst 1 sister and 2 brothers. Her ethnicity belongs to a part Brazilian and a part African with a mix of American ancestry.

Yaya DaCosta has always been into acting from her high school years where she got her inspiration to work into films and stage shows by her drama teacher who made her audition into school performances when she was 11 years old. She rose to fame and success after she participated in the America’s Next Top Model and finished the competition on the second position.
After that she became a renowned model and appeared in many commercials of Garnier and Olay. She then finally made her way onto the big screen by playing her first role in the movie “Take The Lead” in the year 2005 which is a dance movie where she earned great recognition worldwide. She had little guest roles in movies like “The Messenger” and “Honeydripper” after which she started doing television roles.
Her first television role was in “All My Children” which is a daily soap that was followed by her ground breaking debut in her first Off-Broadway performance in “The First Breeze Of Summer”, which took place at the Signature Theater for which she was adorned with praises. She won the Vivian Robinson Recognition Award for Excellence in Black Theatre for the strong role she portrayed on the stage.
