Rutina Wesley was born in the year 1979 on February 1st. She grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada as the only daughter of Cassandra Wesley and Ivery Wheeler. Both her parents belonged from the glamour industry as her mother was a popular model and her father was a famous dancer. She hardly got any time with her parents as they remained busy for most of the time. She felt very alone and was taken care by a caretaker.
Rutina always got inspired by her mother and wanted to become a model like her in the future. She had a knack for dancing from early childhood and when she was only four years old, she started learning dance from her mother. She went to the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies to receive her high school education. She went ahead and further studied Performing and Visual Arts.
Later, after completing her high school education, she pursued theatre arts from the West Las Vegas Arts Center and took training in dance from the Simba Studios. After that, she went to the University of Evansville to pursue a Bachelors degree. In the year 2001, she earned a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Her grandmother further insisted her to go to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to pursue a course. She was also awarded for being the best student for her excellent performance.
In the year 2006, she started her acting career when she appeared in The Vertical Hour. This play was a great success in the beginning of her career and also helped her to earn popularity as an aspiring actress. She was seen in a minor role in the films Hitch and later, in the year 2007 she was starred in How She Move in a major role. The director Ian Iqbal Rashid praised her a lot for her impressive character play in the film.
She also appeared in several dance competitions and shows along with her television acting career. It was dance which paved her, the path for a more successful career. She was casted in the film Saturday Night Fever just because of her excellent dancing talents. After the huge success, she was starred in the television series True Blood by the HBO channel. This role earned her fame and also increased her follower count on the various social networking sites.
Her major appearance in Hannibal which was an NBC drama series, fetched her many praises and appreciations from the people. She was also seen in one of the series of Arrow which further added to her fame. Coming to his personal life, she was first married to Jacob Fishel but the marriage did not continue further and in the year 2013, the couple divorced. In the year 2017, she got engaged to Shonda and will soon announce their marriage.
